Given Charles’ issues, I can live with 3-4 on this occasion. Not based on anything, if Charles was on form and issue free, I think he’d have been ahead of Perez. That’s all we should ever have hoped for frankly. But it’s exactly because we had hope after testing that we’re disappointed.

Constructors is within reach this year IMO, unless redbull dispense with Perez pretty quickly.

Definitely the 2nd in terms of race pace and single lap from this weekend. I think if you take the brake issues away the gap to the others is probably the same as the gap to RB.

Even with the brake issues it's a pretty big gap behind Ferrari. Russell is 0.6-7s/lap slower than LEC, HAM is 22s behind SAI on virtually the same race which is a 0.5-6s/lap slower

The team obviously has some work to do, but it IS a good result be clear second right off the bat, given that it is a brand new concept for the team, whereas MCL had half a season worth of experience with it.

With a cleaner race, the they'd be 6-7 seconds closer

And Hamilton reportedly sacrificed qualy pace for the race.

I don’t think Ferrari will be too disappointed at all. I guess the RBR ability to manage the soft tyres better is also a factor that needs considering. The Ferrari looks so much better on the hards though. Last year was awful every time they put them on

Not too bad. If we keep pace of development and don’t run into reliability issues, constructors is possible. Perez is not a consistent driver over entire season. Both drivers were complaining in FP3 about braking, wonder if the issue lies there.

Not bad. The car is clearly better.

Let’s hope development is aggressive.

0.7-1 second off Max per lap... still work to do

With a clean race it would be around 5 tenths, I think. Messy first stint led to tyre offset of a few laps.

Great job to have reclaimed comfortable 2nd position. =D>

Too bad we couldn't see what Leclerc could have done.

Also, what was that about Merc being ahead in race trim coming from Allison? 8)

Gotta love those headlines "don't give up yet, Hamilton may still have a shot".
It will be for "us" next year.

The good part is that the car is consistent on both softs and hards, and doesn't have much deg, the basics work.
Now we need to extract more pace, lots of it.

Take a look at the setup see if we could play more risky in some areas...
And get that wind tunnel to work.

Indeed. Looking back at previous couple of years, judging race pace based on SAI only is more or less as reliable as evaluating Red Bull's based on PER only.

There was no data suggesting that from testing, no clue what Allison was on about.
