Just saying stuff like "Clearly you have no idea what it takes to make it into F1 as a salaried driver." has no purpose but to inflame others. You passed judgement and broadcasted. No wonder when you are having a discussion with anyone it's a novella that is nearly impossible to follow with so many many many points and counter points.

Let's try to keep it out of the personal realm. You think Piquet is better then the rest of the world seems to. Fine. Your constant attempts to back up your opinion with facts leaves you with the same thing you started with, your opinion.

I think, in my opinion, that Nelson did a far worse job proving himself to the rest of the F1 fraternity in order to get a good seat, unlike Kovi. Nelson started out bad, and got worse. All things aside, he folded under the pressure, and is acting like a sore loser now.

All the time he sat there smugly on the pit wall beside Flavio, while Fisi was driving his balls and heart out, has come back and hit him in the ass 3 fold, like Karma always does.

It's getting harder all the time just to read these forums.

Giblet, if it's not a place to exchange opinion I'll gracefully bow out. Otherwise I'm happy to trade opinions with people who see things differently. Apologies for the length of things. I type quickly and don't spend time culling things afterwards. If it's impairing your ability to enjoy the forums, I'll quit.

You make a fair call on the "clearly you have no idea" comment. That was out of line. Apologies all.

Wasn't his job to be sitting on the pit wall or are all third drivers similarly karmic?

Agree that Kovalainen did a better job on points, though he didn't play second to Alonso either.

Everyone defending Piquet is so quick to use the scapegoat of him being Alonso's teammate. Regardless of his teammate or lack of car upgrades his driving was not on point. I am sorry but I just never saw this talent few people swear he had.

it was more like when Fisi was pushing really hard and made an error, or was having trouble qualifying with the r27, Piquet would lean over, chuckling to Flavio with his hand over his mic every time. That's the part that wasn't his job, but you got my point.

Agreeably not a good look but do we really know what was being said?

Well, assuming that Piquet Snr aquires part of Sauber, then Piquet Junior will probably get a seat.

Anyway, Piquet has performed poorly, but I thought Renault would fire him at the end of the season.

Is anyone else surprised that the sacking announcement was made by Piquet rather than by RenaultF1? Is this purely a consequence of the summer shut down and the Piquet's decided to get on the front foot while the Renault PR dept are on holidays?

Surely FB does not hate him that much that he couldn't be bothered announcing he was fired?

Piquet's PR people certainly did something with his front foot, but I don't think it helped.

I think thats the same case as Bourdais. With the lack of testing the more seat time you can give your new driver the better, and if they can get a chance to learn new tracks its a bonus. So I actually would envision that the team will be more readily sacking people in season just for that reason alone....

No we don't for sure, but you already got my point, and I don't want to be drawn into a nit picky discussion about what might have been said, on the pit wall, ages ago. :|

I rightly speculated that human nature, Fisi's stance on already thin ice at that time, and the smug half smile on Piquet's face in each event of Fisi's and Renault's misfortune makes it pretty clear he wasn't putting him on a pedestal. Covering your mic is what you do naturally while wearing a headset, when you don't want anyone on channel to hear what you are saying.

If I am wrong, I go to sleep wrong tonight.

Look at someone like Alonso, who in 2006 won the WDC with the same chassis he started the year with. He never turned a single click in r26 #2, always the same car. This way he had a baseline to make comparisons to. He was able to feel the tiny changes from new parts quickly and easily, not entirely down to talent. The lack of testing makes it hard for drivers who aren't totally at home, like Alonso. How do you drive a car quickly that you never get to feel comfortable in?

pml..... The McLaren is slow because Lewis didn't tell them about in testing???? I think that they had a man with a stopwatch who measured lap times to determine if the car was slow. Just a hunch.

Anyway, why all this Lewis/McLaren baiting in this thread? I thought Piquet drove for Renault????

It always seemed like Piquet Jr was struggling with something or other. A good driver works with what he's given. If he knew his equipment, he'd have been able to take advantange of the strengths and coped with the weaknesses.

Piquet Jr just didn't seem to be able to come to terms with the car. Maybe different people put unecessary pressures on him? Maybe he was pushed into F1 too soon? I don't know.

I wonder how much F1 teams invest in driver development? I mean work with a driver if they're weak in one area or another. I realize development is what feeder series are for. But other sports invest in player training, not just coaching. And it's often none stop training.

Regardless, I wish Piquet Jr all the best.

Any update on his replacement???

And ill put it this way with Piquet, he will probably be more at home on the catwalk and not in the paddock.
