on German Sky, Marko said that Ferrari used quali mode for their hot lap in FP2.

If you delete the ?s=46 in the end it should work, I think.

But those runs look difficult to compare today, also because some didn't do enough laps for tire wear to become a factor. It was certainly interesting to see that Piastri closed the gap to Perez ahead, though.

You can see it before and after T6. But Ferrari are fast, it might not matter.
That’s 3 tenths of engine mode before and after turn 6? To me that looks like a different deployment strategy - as in where they deploy across the entire lap. Everywhere else it looks pretty much the same, or even behind redbull (which again I would have thought is the result of different deployment strategies)

Who said anything about 3 tenths?

Here's the traces from their fastest laps in quali last year. The RB obviously has superior cornering performance, but acceleration and straight line performance is very comparable, albeit RB with a slight DRS advantage. You don't see those big differences you see from FP2.

Yes, it's deployment. Ferrari is accelerating more after T6 and RB is accelerating more after T13. Ferrari is carrying more speed through T5 all the way to T6 brake point, while RB is doing the same through T9-10 all the way to T11 brake point. Same nuance we saw in Bahrain and Jeddah, each team is doing things a bit differently, but overall the PU levels are the same.

RB needs to improve in slower corners, while Ferrari needs to improve in T9-10. Looks like RB might be running lower than Ferrari, but stiffer.

my takes:
RB is weak in sub-200 kmh corners, and even in ~220 kmh (red squares). We see it again in melbourne after we've seen in bahrain and saudi.

Ferrari's higher engine mode could be seen in non-drs zones (marked in green). We'se also seen this pattern in bahrain and saudi - RB is using lower power relative in to others in practice.

Only advantage RB seem to hold is in super high speed ~250 kmh (orange), again consistent with past races.

4 tenths is not a small difference, even with usual variables factored in. I predict a game of tenths if not hundredths between LEC/VER come Q3 . Fight for 3rd best is between mclaren/aston/merc. As it stands I'd put mclaren on top of that group.
