China was a fairly high-load circuit earlier, 2019 cars used same wings in Bahrain and China. Surface only got rougher and possibly even bumpier than before, so keeping higher level of wings might be necessary. I wouldn't be surprised seeing Suzuka specs on all cars. Right now mid-level wings seems like a must to me, the only question may be beam wing choice for RB and Ferrari.

They averaged the last 4 laps of the listed driver's 1 stints. So Sainz' 37.9 is included.

Leclerc stint was ~12 laps longer than the other drivers listed. I would say this is anything but "cherry picking".

You are counting the in-laps as one of the 4 laps.

The averages that were provided are 100% correct

Last 4 laps are last 4 laps. Or maybe in-laps are discounted from race time and I didn´t know?

It's been resurfaced in the meantime, quite recently if I'm not mistaken, so that would be another reason to go higher on the wings. I've checked old Pirelli previews and the downforce index is never higher than 2/5, if that's the right terminology.

I agree Bahrain is a good measuring stick in terms of set up, but SIC is not as clear-cut in terms of wing levels. I think there is definitely scope to go lower on wings because with the new cars.

All things aside, if there is a team I expect to arrive with a good base setup, it's Ferrari. They seem to know what they are doing in the simulator.

Of course, they will be slower because they are going into the pit lane, it skews the mean lap time therefore it's considered an outlier. This pretty standard stuff.

If we count outliers, then we might as well count laps that were done under yellow flag, but it won't give us an accurate representation of the pace. I don't get what you are getting at, it's been done like this forever, literally.

The Shanghai circuit was re-asphalt for this year's race, so it's unlikely to be any rougher or bumpier than in 2019

Ah, cool, didn't know about resurfacing, thanks. Maybe new cars can indeed go with lower wings because with new asphalt they can ride lower, but I still think Ferrari will then choose 1-piece beam wing and keep the same rear wing again. Everyone will bring a lot of wings to cover every possibility in any case, it's a big unknown with new cars and new asphalt for sure...

I want them to at least experiment with lower DF levels and Shanghai seems like a good opportunity/excuse!

I'm not sure they will have the chance to experiment in Shanghai since it's a sprint weekend. Miami too, but that could be a good chance to go higher in Sprint and lower for the Race when the track is already rubberred in. Miami has much more traction zones compared to Shanghai, where there are long medium and high speed corners and only 3 true slow corners

I'm still sure due to Sainz' absence they decided not to use lower wing in Jeddah from FP3 on. 4-5 tenths lost on straights every lap, way too much.

Tomorrow formu1a.uno will be releasing an article talking about the new upgrade package for Imola which has been over 3 months of work and they will call it Ferrari 2.0 (really an italianism at this point, but amounts to the car being a B-spec).

Skimming through, article claims;
First of three planned "big" upgrade, comes to Imola which will include inverted sidepod inlets, changes to sidepod, floor, front wing and cockpit? deflectors.
