Mercedes have been in trouble with their car since 2022, is this the best time to put rookie Antonelli with no experience into Hamilton's shoes? I mean regs are changing too, so Sainz's experience would be valuable. Merc is just too messed up work place right now to put a rookie solving problems.
Uh, yes? I can't think of a better time to replace Hamilton than now in the last 10 years. He hasn't won a race in 2,5 years, he left the team of his own will, and the team is not currently competing for a championship. That being said, putting Sainz in the car for 2 years might be an even better option given his performance level.
Seems odd to me to have Ferrari and Merc swapping drivers. ie. LH and Sainz switching team.
Not when you consider the circumstances and available options for Merc. Antonelli has not had a great start to F2.

Carlos is doing a very good job right now, but he has benefited from better tires strategies too. A couple of the Ferrari results would have been reversed had Charles got the better tire strategy.

The lead car gets the preferred strategy. Charles' lack of strategy options stems from his poor quali, especially in races like Japan and Australia.

For Sainz, I am sure he will want to secure a seat as soon as possible, while Merc can't possibly wait around to see how Antonelli performs in F2 before making decision

If Merc doesn't make decision soon, its most likely they may have already secured the service of Vettel for 2025.

It's a possible option for Merc because he is very popular in Germany, home country for Merc.

Everyone has an opinion. If we ask Ralf, the seat would go to Mick or Max. Vettel in the Mercedes seat is a joke. Vettel's last years were quite weak. Alonso came and showed what old people can do with Aston Martin's car. Vettel wasn't even old.

Not in result, but I feel he does show all the hallmarks of a big talent on track. Speed, dare (yes, also goes wrong) creative moves. I like him.

Merc has got 3 options Sainz Vettel and Antonelli

Opinion from drivers within the team is of course more credible. So I won't discount the possibility.

Judging Vettel based on his time at AM is not a fair comparison. Ric was rubbish at Mclaren, Alonso retired from F1 before returning.

Between the 3 drivers I would put my money on Vettel as he will be more valuable brand ambassador than the other 2 combine.

Judging Vettel based on his last two years at Ferrari isn't looking so good either.

Ric is still rubbish.

That must be why he destroyed Vettel in the same car at RedBull, including the only 3 non Mercedes wins that year.
