Perhaps in Europe or UK. But globally, F1 is much more accessible now and countless F1 videos on Youtube.
And this is what will make sponsors happy.
this is not entirely liberty medias achievement, rather a side effect of everything being present in social media and streaming apps
If predictability kills F1, then other formula series with less predictability should be equally or more popular since they have same access to social media and streaming apps.
other series spend 10% of what liberty does in advertising. F1 came to this era already being the “pinnacle” of Motorsport, etc…
and then what other formula series are there? Indycar? doesn’t exist outside the US, F2, F3 will never overtake F1 for obvious reasons. Japan super formula I have never ever seen a video on YouTube as recommended unless willingly looking for it.
and formula E is niche and most people couldn’t careless about oversized electrics toys, so “other series should be more popular by now” is not entirely true
How to fix F1?
-Engines on the verge of mechanical limits, limit one engine per weekend. V8,V10,I4 whatever. No ERS and unnecessary complexity, “carbon neutrality” and “planet saving” won’t be done by a few race cars going in circles once in a while anyways, let DHL handle that “net zero co2” headline
Engines run on one map only for the race, no fuel saving, no sandbagging, no nothing. Max power all the time with a power of target 900-950hp
-Weight reduction, return to the minimum 540kg dry weight
-Wheelbase, around 1 meter shorter
-DRS, either allow it everywhere on track or remove it completely, see who is willing to give it all.
-Different tyre philosophy, we see more flatout action in kart races with predictable tire degradation. I know for example how much time the tires lose after 5, 15, 30 laps.
Seeing these guys today coast and lift 30-40 meters early is sacrilege.
-Limited computing power for strategy and race predictions during the weekend, common and sealed equipment for all teams
-Grid girls, and all the aura of glamour that once surrounded F1 must come back
Optional:
Remove the halo
Raise pit lane minimum speed
Refueling
13 teams
After all, this is and was a risky sport for those who were truly passionate about it. Excessive safety is killing the aspect of F1 that made it F1. Do not have unrealistic expectations.
Karting is still karting because the basic aspect hasn’t changed although the CIK FIA is doing a mediocre job at best, but still, the top class is direct drive engines with crazy minimum weight and a decent balance between tire saving and flatout racing.
What is F1 nowadays?
