Stroll 1st 0.3s down tells me track evolution is monumental.

Considering that Haas and Williams are so high, there's probably many many variables in play.

Wonder if there's a lot of downtuned PU's .. otherwise this order bodes for nice racing

I don't think anybody is going to change their engine mode during practice just for 1 race, these procedures are locked tight to make sure no errors are made, data looks the same each weekend and they can apply the same post-session procedures to analyze the data.

I think this is just people not pushing or track evolution, plus maybe some glory runs from some teams but I doubt that as well.

Also, those front tires on the Red Bull looked shocking after just 6 laps (2 fast, 4 slow) and in general the Softs look burned after just 10 laps even on the Ferrari. This track is eating the soft for breakfast somehow.

I don't think track evolution is that big. The Red Bulls did their laps at the same time as Stroll. Could not have been more than a minute difference. Maybe Stroll used a higher power mode than others or Aston Martin is genuinely very fast. They had a big upgrade in Japan, but not so much time to dial it in there.

Ah, one of those sessions that opens up more questions and gives no answers
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Albon's helmet is my favorite design of the last few years hands down and not even that close.

According to FP1, Alpine's new floor has catapulted them into the upper midfield. Aston Martin and Mclaren will lead an all-british podium. Mercedes and Ferrari will be looking to get a head start on packing for Miami.

Track dramatically slower than expected, irrelevant time trials and tactically different approaches.
Red Bull tried the race pace, Ferrari the Sprint pace. The evolution of the grip is the great mystery, confidence counts more than timing

as per albert fabrega Less graining than expected. Especially on the left side and with softs, although also a little with mediums. Depends on fuel load.
