Rear wing of the RB20 for Chinese GP, bybit sponsor is no longer on it. Sidepods as well

I mean, Newey is the same guy who in February said he was worried they had a too conservative approach with RB20, just to show up with reverse sidepod inlets, Merc style cannons, completely reshuffled cooling system...

I think bro has different targets than us

anyway back to the present, what do you think for China ? will the RB20 suffer this mess of a tarmac ?

Didnt Wache say they were doing well? Especially with the new design

For what it's worth, I have just seen that Max said:
🎙️ | Max Verstappen about the RB20:

“I think there is a lot more to come in terms of the RB20, there is more potential in it.”

FP1 not great, but not terrible either. No sign of graining. The car still understeers.

Medium tire long(?) runs:

Ver locked up and missed T11 on lap 7.

I kinda expected something more from Max, but I guess this sh*tty tarmac made things complicated, kudos to Lando btw !

anyway pointless session, we'll see tomorrow when things matter, on dry conditions car seemed ok.

Seeing Max so out of sync with the car was unexpected, he must have had at least 4-5 excursions. Nevertheless, tomorrow in the Sprint RB20 and SF24 will show their tyre deg superiority and eventually breeze past the rivals.
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Yep, but not the first time IIRC - there was a prior season where the RB was terrible in the rain.

RB will be hoping that is the excuse for today…

To be honest it looked fairly average in the dry as well. Typical sprint weekend where setup isn’t quite right. At least the car can be changed tomorrow.

This is a circuit that Verstappen said he likes. I haven’t seen anything that syncs with that statement. I didn’t watch Q1 but he was 3 tenths behind Perez there. That already suggest that something is not right. While the long run was quicker than Perez, it just reminds me of the beginning of 2022. The car has too much understeer.

Somehow the RB20 doesn’t seem quite right yet? Regardless of the wins, something seems missing balance wise. I wonder if Imola upgrades can correct this.

Teams are reaching the limits of tyre usage. Points are won in the Race, not Qualifying, so you design and prepare your car for the race. This means you'll suffer on occasion, but still be better in 96% of races in a season

Is the understeer we are seeing due to RB trading off outright pace for better tyre wear?

This is strange considering Max said in previous interviews that he was finding the RB20 even better than the RB19.
Maybe Perez did a step without having to think about the WDC and with the goal of getting a new contract with RB.

Another option is that they haven't dialed in the new upgrades yet, at least on Max's side.

In any event the quali was simply decided by the tyres. If you can't switch them on, you are nowhere.

I don't think Shanghai is a circuit where understeery setup protects tyres as the circuit is front-limited.
Maybe understeer is a consequence of RB running on full tanks.
