Tires left for the weekend (used ones are all 3-7 laps old):

I guess Medium will be the preferred choice for the sprint?
I was thinking hard for sprint
mmh, that would leave most in a pretty bad position for Sunday, though?

And 8 drivers have only one set of hards left, so they aren't even allowed to use them in the sprint (as it's mandatory to keep one set for the race).

I think Lando is running slightly higher downforce. He was almost 10kph down on the back straight relative to the RB in SQ2, similar deficit to Ferrari. Probably helped him with the tyres in SQ3.

Yes, this.

Good piece on different wing approaches and how that not only played into warming up tires, but also came in handy when it started raining in sq3.

Im OK with Norris time being reinstated. However, Id like to see 'track deletion'-rule implemented the same on every circuit. We had the track limit discussion of where you gain time and where you dont. And they ended up just doing the hard and fast rule of "when you are outside of the white line, you are off the circuit regardless of gain/lost time or what not". The same should be done to deletion of the next lap. If you go over the white line at the exit of the last corner, your next lap gets removed as well.
I get your point and from an easy-to-know-for-all position, you are right. If I remember correct the rule for next lap deleted has so far only been used for turns with asphalt run offs and in my opionion only makes sense there. An for information, this rule is in the race director instruction. So it is quite possible that it changes from race to race. That's how it is now.

The rules should strive to do the fair thing, not the easy thing. The fair thing to do here is to delete when an advantage has been gained, and vice versa.

If that is the case, the first lap will be interesting.

engine drivability probably plays a part as well. That's what Toto Wolff said after the session, at least, and would explain three different Mercedes cars in the Top 3.

Some drivers think that the even side grid spots will be disadvantaged for the grid start.

same as in Brazil last year, certain things can be changed now despite parc fermé, by the way, as we had a "CHANGE IN CLIMATIC CONDITIONS" today. Mainly stuff related to cooling, though.

Alonso and Norris in to the first corner then, with Carlos getting in the mix with Lewis and Max. Could get spicy.

Bottas for the win 8)

The sprint isn't worth much, so I don't expect any problems in lap 1. They have to keep their cars together for the GP qualifying later in the day.
