Will there be another cringefest pre race event like last year? Hopefully this time mclaren won't force their drivers to parade around like male hookers a la 2022
This year the drivers will trash talk before the race

The regulations around starting/moving before the lights go out have been changed:

Importantly, determining whether a false start has happened is no longer solely done with the transponder. So we hopefully won't have anyone get away with those marginal ones where they clearly moved but not enough to be registered by the transponder

I'm still flabbergasted that a transponder in 2024 is not able to detect the movement ..

It's possible to fool fuel flow sensors, share Gb's of data per lap, clock laps within 1000s of a seconde, but detecting 10cm movement is apparently impossible.
Insane

They can do it, they just didn’t want to.

A boring track with predictable results. RBR with an easy 1-2.

The significant "time gain" points are -

T6-7-8 giant wide U-turn
T13-14-15 sharp curve followed by chicane
T17 end of straight reflex angle turn

Only the first one is a 'driver skill' difference maker, here we will see VER>PER, LEC>SAI, NOR>PIA, OCO>GAS properly. Will be interesting to see how HAM v/s RUS , TSU v/s RIC stack up against each other.
The other two are pure 'car ability with low speed traction' zones.

Expecting RB20 and SF24 to have significant gap with others, unless McLaren's update solves their drag issues.

Finally! That was ridiculous.

Agree. Unfortunately, the main show and talking points will be about Newey & Max’s future. Bit like most of the season, the off field drama & staff moves, are the most interesting things about the sport.

Can see why they’ve added the sprint. Into it’s third year, and the novelty of being in Miami has worn off.

So what happens in the Bottas scenario few years ago? would it be possible to determine that he started few miliseconds before lights turned off?
