Those with two H are fully covered for any random safety car event that might change it from a 1 stop to a 2 stop race. All except both Mercedes and Ricciardo have atleast one M new and one M used. Expecting RUS, HAM, RIC to start on softs and offset everyone with new H before lap10. Having two H means no need to 'manage' , can push like a madman.

I find it interesting that Leclerc isn't doing his "throttle thing" around this track.
So Max got the pole by avoiding kerbs in T16 and T17 and getting earlier on the throttle, it's also clear when comparing telemetry traces

That is not true. Problem is thermal deg in Miami, not tyre wear. Thermal deg can destroy a tyre within a couple of laps. Even if they do a 2 stop they need to manage, which will make a 2 stop irrelevant if nothing unpredictable happens.

If Thermal deg sound unfamiliar: Thermal deg happens when a tyre stays too hot for too long. In that case the chemicals in the thread, which make the tyre do its thing, will change, making the tyre basically a useless piece of rubber. If you manage that proces well, the hard tyre in Miami can survive a very long time. Even better, the more the tyre is used, the cooler it becomes, the harder the driver can start pushing on it. See wat Verstappen did last year. This is because the thread becomes thinner, which gives less movement in the surface, which generate less and less heat.

It would still be surprise if tires turn out to be a deciding factor today, I guess, even if they need some managing. Last year the McLarens pitted for hards on lap 5, and Piastri was still able to set his fastest lap in the very end. So normally it should be an easy one-stopper for everyone, no matter when they pit.

And that will be much harder than last year as DRS already opens in lap 2. So they all have to push very hard in the beginning and once you have too much heat in the tire you cannot get rid of it.

Very hot surface, plus the track itself seems to be punishing drivers who attack too hard on the curbs and whatnot.

So we got some 'peaky' tire play for qualifying, but I'll bet it smooths out fine in the race.

The track surface isn't the same as last year. Apparently the track has had high-pressure water treatment, and according to Pirelli, this has drastically changed the surface (30% increase in "micro roughness" - whatever that is).

This, combined with a potentially higher track temperature, could perhaps change last years 1-stopper to a 2-stop race.

This is the version of Verstappen I always like, when he just chill in an Interview. He didn't have to think for a sec when he said he'd have to win until '28 to get 8 titles :D

apparently it's super humid today. Last year this was named as one of the reasons why Red Bull wasn't at its best in Singapore and Montreal.

Be interesting on the tyres today. 1 New Hard and Medium for Ferrari, 6 laps on the used they have spare. RBR have 2 New hard and medium. So a mid/late SC would throw advantage RBR.

For me, Ferrari have to split the strategy with sainz on the hard going long dropping to a medium later on with hope of a later on SC.

Hamilton has to try the hards and go long, hoping for the above too. Worked for Max last year.

I think it'll be 2 RBR's vs leclerc though. So advantage RBR with the strategy. Goes against what everyone thinks will happen, but I think Perez will soon make light work of Sainz with the pace of the RBR vs the Ferrari's.
