Well if McLaren did invite him they made it political. Not getting into pro or against, but bringing controversial political figure as guest is really not a smart move (to put it as mildly as I can).
It's not really a RedBull style sidepod. It's more inspired by the W14 mid-wing if anything else. I think this upgrade is trying to start tackle the issue, I think they know if it a hard one to tackle and this is why some bits have been delayed.
