I imagine Russell and Hamilton split front wings to test the new spec. Doesn't look like an improvement at this track, as Hamilton was clearly the faster driver of the two.

There was an explanation provided for that by Ted Kravitz.

“"Did it work? Given Russell was on the new and Lewis was on the old, what does it say as to why Lewis was quicker than George?

"The team say it's not down to the front wing. Russell had a big axel and front brake vibration which limited his progress throughout the session.

That made a true read on the efficiently of the front wing pretty tricky.

"They do believe the new front wing is doing what it should be, even though the benefit of downforce here is a little bit decreased compared to some other circuits we go to.”

I think that’s likely the case, particularly if we see both cars adopt moving forward. The scope of the changes implemented signal a new design direction as opposed to circuit-specific tweaks.
