The drivers being human and occasionally making mistakes is the best part of F1. No one wants to see robots driving the cars.

Max has had a ridiculously consistent run in qualifying of late. One mistake does not diminish that, just shows he is human too.

idk, I wonder if Verstappen/RBR have just turned it down a notch for the good of the sport, like Mercedes did in their day when they figured out they were ahead of everybody by x amount. Then after the summer break they'd turn it up again and win the championships by a comfortable margin.

This is all conjecture, of course, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some more close competition until the summer break only to have RBR walk it after.

I find it strange that general view on Max that he choked under pressure and bottled it.
When any driver makes a rare mistake, it's always treated as he's making mistakes every other weekend. It's never considered a limitation of the car, which was obviously the case yesterday

Take a look at Leclerc early last year, was taken out by Stroll in Australia, binned it in SQ in Baku trying to improve an already good enough lap, pushed the car too fast over a kerb in Miami Q3 and he was already considered the worst he's ever been in F1. The fact that SF23 was horribly peaky and unstable anywhere but slow corners at that time was irrelevant.

Points are awarded in the race, Q is when you push as hard as you can and take bigger risks, especially in Monaco...

I'm curious how Mercedes will use the same spec rear wing at Monaco AND Canada?

Never heard of this before. Monaco is an outlier usually with a track specific aero package.

Edit: nevermind, read the car development thread and realised it's the front wing that's new

What's with all the trash talking? I've been away from this place for a while but this is... not what I remember.
It is a bit of a game of whack-a-mole. We mods are whacking, trying to contain it, but not fast enough (sighs).

One thing I haven't seen anyone mention is the fact that Leclerc and Sainz are the only drivers from the top teams to not have a notable wall hit in any session this weekend. The Ferrari is clearly fast enough for the drivers to not feel any pressure to get close enough to the walls to risk hitting them.

I don't if the plastic banner that ended up in Leclerc's wing during FP3 was from a wall hit, or because it was ripped off by someone else and just ended up in his wing, but that would be the only example I could even think of tht MIGHT indicate a wall smack..

These vinyl banners on rails need to be stripped down before the race. If not, they will ruin the race for a few drivers for sure, already ruined the Q and caused stupid problems for many drivers

I saw a graph showing that the Mercedes were fastest on the straightline in Monaco, could it be because of the new rear and front wing?

Seems nobody noticed that Verstappen did two warm up laps on his last attempt to solve their tire temperature issues. Obviously did not work out.

Hamilton did not get the new wing as they only had one and of course it went to the driver that’s not leaving.

So if both cars were fast then it wasn’t because of the wing.

How will Ferrari cause Leclerc to lose the race today, what are your predictions?

I'm feeling a mechanical issue or just a horribly untimely safety car. I.e. not a strategy failure this time.

Was there any race sims done?

Could be handy for working out any chance of a undercut and finding some space.

Sainz preventive undercut (like Vettel in Singapore 2019) or Piastri can caught them.

Send him out in a 250GTO for the massive style points of Leclerc in Monaco in a GTO, and fail scrutineering as a result.
