Unfortunately for Esteban this is all to do with him. He's fast enough, skilled enough, but a complete loose cannon selfish employee. That may work when you are a generational talent, but not when you are merely decent.

True. He always put himself first. He had issues with Perez and total brain-dead behaviour on track with Alonso and now with Gasly (since last year). He got a long rope and I guess Alpine ran out of patience.

I think he is probably going to Audi. He is better than Sainz for sure.

When you look at the drivers currently on the grid, i think Esteban is closer to the upper end of performance than the bottom, so i think in that sense Esteban is a big loss to Alpine and who is hard to replace. I think he is far more deserving of staying on the grid than many other drivers.

On the other hand, Alpine's struggles will hardly attract other good drivers, so they might just as well invest on their juniors (Doohan, Martins, etc).

Why wouldn't the replacement be "Jack Doohan "?
Doohan/Gasly for 2025?

100%. Sainz is tier-3 in my list.

There is some joy in seeing Ocon getting what he deserves. He is a pretty big a-hole when his helmet is on imo.
But is this really the best and wisest decision Alpine could've have taken? They seem pretty trigger happy with firing people. Putting him on the sidelines for a race or two would've been pretty effective I think. He's a good driver, he just needs boundaries and management.

They're not firing him, just no renewing his contract.

Sure. How would you feel if your employer hired someone else to do your job and you headed to the market seeking other jobs perhaps with a pay cut?

Not sure what you want me to say...he isn't the first person to not have they're contract renewed. Plus he's made $15 million over the last 3 years, lives in Monaco (doesn't pay any taxes) .... so, I wouldn't be so broken up about him.

Victor Martins is French.

You suppose Martins is less impressive than Doohan?

I was confused as Martins was initially very quick in Formula 2, yet has not gone done much in F2 since then.

If Gabriele Mini is more impressive too, as some claim, why not promote the F3 Alpine junior?

Sure why not, they have Gasley though, they don't need another French driver. I just picked Doohan cause he's an Alpine's guy. If you're not gonna let non French drivers drive, then why sponsor them?

A less often mentioned candidate is Bottas. But he wants a long term project to help move forward, he brings plenty of experience and he is unlikely to cause fireworks alongside Gasly - or anyone TBH. I think Alpine would be happy with him on a 2 years contract, having his experience to develop a 2026 platform could be beneficial too. And Alpine could well be Bottas' best bet now he seems to be out of the equation for Audi.

Alpine have sacked veteran operations director Rob White.
Maybe they're finally doing the right thing and cleaning house? God knows, whatever they've tried over the last 15 years, hasn't worker.
I feel the same. I remember some analysis in French magazine, saying that the problem with Alpine/Reno is partially because "Enstone" doesn't care who they are: Lotus, Renault, Alpine, Geely ;) etc. The main goal of people from Enstone is to retain job and have a nice and peaceful surrounding with friend they used to work with for decades. According to the journalist: it's their mindset thats a blocked. Because of it they do not really listen to whoever is the manager. Managers do not have the support from factory on their goals. And the only way is to do a significant changes in organisation of the factory.

Thats what I read.
