Rain is not only "wetness" its track temperature as well. Depending on sun or cloud it can take quite a time for the tarmac to get up to a stable condition so it could well be a bit pot luck if it has not been stable come qualifying or the start.
Mclaren probably hoping for mixed

A collection of news for the Canadian GP:

- new surface
- fresh graters (several in Ayrton Senna's colors)
- grass in the T8-9 turn sequence.

High curbs are still present at the final chicane.

Mercedes looks like lowest downforce, or at least lowest angle of attack.

Ferrari, Mclaren and Red Bull all look similar to me. Ferrari maybe a bit lower angle, but hard to tell without more pictures.

To me, Ferrari looks highest downforce and Mercedes looks lowest, with the other two in between. These are anyway initial ones, might be nothing like these when they are finally ready for Q.

This type of weather pattern is very difficult to predict so I wouldn’t trust any hourly reports

The mercedes wing doesnt seem to be low df.
It seems to be a once very popular style of wing for this track over the years, with the big chord in the middle . High camber profile in the middle with most of the downforce being made there and then very gentle, smaller and low drag profiles towards the end pates.
Could be a compromise to drive the diffuser more at low speeds with the higher upwash in the centre but have overall lower wing drag on the straights.

Canada is not a low-load circuit due to only 1 long(ish) straight and bunch of low-mid speed corners. RB, Mercedes and probably a few more teams brought same rear wings as last year, while Ferrari, McLaren and AMR have new wings for this load-range this year.

This circuit is the samce since 25+ years and was always on the lower end regarding downforce. I guss the 2 big DRS sections and the weather forcast lead to relativ big wings.
