Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen has won the Canadian Grand Prix after a very eventful 70 laps at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. He was joined on the podium by Lando Norris and George Russell who both felt more was possible for them.
He wasn’t told not to park the car there. He immediately got going again without any radio interaction. When he radioed in he was trying to get back (when already almost there) the team confirmed they agreed.
.
You are right. @chris90 posted the evidence.
@chris90:
"Such comments weren't broadcast over the team radio to Perez thats for certain."
"Here's the clip of Perez returning to the pits including team radio."
This just seemed utterly NORMAL from what we've seen over many years of F1.
Ridiculous to penalise something like this, that goes same for any team in this situation.
Marko made valid, in my view, comparison to LH win at Silverstone with no front tire (to speak of) he even went past the pit entrance like this with the car on three tires.
Similarly events at Cota with evaluation on the fly to assess damage without pitting, forget who it was.
F1 disappearing up its own backside like this. They should recind that penalty without request from the team, just to save themselves from embarrassment.
2020 Styrian (Austria) GP. Leclerc crashed into Vettel in T3 and damaged Vettel's rear wing. Ferrari told Vettel to come back to the pits. Vettel drove back to the pits with a damaged rear wing. No penalty.
Perez's penalty is unprecedented. The reason that Leclerc got his penalty in Suzuka '19 was for driving around for multiple laps with his car in a dangerous condition. Perez went 4 corners to the pits. The penalty is nonsense.
that was the first lap.. so there was no risky situation for the drivers cause noone would cross Vettel before he pitted.
The pictures linked are from onboard cameras of cars that were crossing Vettel. This includes Leclerc, Grosjean, an Alfa Romeo, and everyone else who qualified behind.
