Mercedes has made a huge jump because they fixed probably the main issue of their car which was the front wing.
A similar scenario to what happened in 2018 when the SF 71H had an issue in the floor geometry which was making the car slower than expected.

This is the real Mercedes.

As soon as I saw that the floor roof was lowered with the new upgrades I thought of the possibility of porpoising. I've not read what exactly Sainz said, but if he actually mentioned porpoising then of course it's the explanation for their huge lift compared to others in the high speed section. That's a big time loss.

But I'm not worried. The team just needs to find out the optimal setup to shut off the porpoising again. It's been a big upgrade package overall (Imola and Barcelona combined).

Another thing which Sainz said was the characteristics of the track which partly are similar to China and Suzuka and that it was not a surprise that they struggled (or something on those lines) because these type of corners are the weak point of the car. So I guess he means the long radius corners? If yes, I wonder how to solve that and whether they addressed these issues with the current upgrades already or it will happen later in the season.

The colder track didn't help either.
Yeah, I thought of the same thing about lowering the floor roof, that in quest of finding more performance the team did a France 2022.
I have a sneaking suspicion that the upgrades have made the car worse. We obviously don't have enought data to conclude that, so that's more of a gut feeling than anything else.
The car without upgrades was slower than the car with upgrades on Friday

Still, for Barcelona in a Summer day, 22 degrees air temperature is on the lower side. Unusually low even compared to the following days.

I honestly think it’ll be a quiet and underwhelming race for Ferrari… nothing this weekend has convinced me that they’ve got the outright pace to compete with the Max, Norris or both Mercedes in the race.

We should be more worried about Oscar behind us.

The fact they’re also squabbling at the moment isn’t going to help matters.

What the hell was that move from Sainz? Incredibly reckless. He could have taken both of them out. I get this is a race but holy ---, you don't pull a move like that on your teammate for P5.

Ferrari doesn't have the who ever is in front in qual keep that place and asks to pass if he feels faster?

Well that was depressing… Sainz race pace is poor on the Medium it would seem.

Charles pace isn’t bad on Softs, but still falling back.

We're losing 3-4 tenths to MCL in the downforce-heavy sector, S2. And we have poor race pace in general.
That's 2023 territory.

And I'm sorry, but we can't say that we don't put enough energy into the tyres, we're in Barcelona of all places. The track is 42°C.

Poor race pace from SF-24? I don't know which season you're watching. Maybe check again.
