There is not enough pace difference to the Mercedes, he will be stuck behind them. The win is not gonna happen but I think they gave up the podium as well with this strategy.

No we don’t, but apparently someone at McLaren seems to think they can, at least I hope so cause otherwise this strategy is even more catastrophic than I thought

Strategy made perfect sense. VER was 5 seconds ahead - you can't undercut 5 seconds.

NOR was able to extend his stint longer, wait for a potential safety car (remember there are gravel traps around) and build a significant tyre delta. He is back in the spot he was before the pitstops - and he still has tyre delta that can be used again after last pitstop.

He needs to get past Russel quickly and have some laps on clean air to use this tire delta they built, otherwise it will all be for nothing.

Now we at least we need to get out of undercut range for the next set of stops and hope we can get into understop range of VER

He needs godlike pace to cut this gap away, but this race has been weird so far so who knows. At least he got back into P2, car working well.
