That seems unambitious! Why not use the 2026 power unit and chassis as the perfect opportunity to come out of the gate with the best power unit and best chassis?
I think the problem is the budget of engine department. It’s unlimited and clearly Renault doesn’t want to spend as much as the rest on this. One can bet that is what Mercedes (or Ferrari) will be targeting, even if they fall short. So no reason for Renault and Alpine with equivalent budget, and presumably equal if not superior skills and facilities by now, to not target the same.
