Do both cars have the new wing available to them?
They were switching the wing from Lando to Oscar so maybe not.

Looks like Verstappen lost the engine. And he was already at the limit of 4 (Norris used only 2).

The fight is on!

Most likely, some kind of sensor has failed.

And he is back out. Okay - didn't sound that good. Very lucky to be able to continue the session.

Not the best of sessions but tough to judge with them juggling around front wings for testing.

Glimpse of competitiveness by Lando on the end. Let's see how the pace is like in qualifying, but Mercedes looks really quick here.

Piastri's lap was good, Lando was also on a good lap but went into the gravel. From my casual observation it looked like Verstappen was quicker in S1 but Piastri made up for it in S2.

Thought it was a typical sprint practise, was surprised they did a soft tyre tun as usually don’t bother but I guess the surprise and disappointment we all felt once they bolted the soft tyre on for SQ3 taught them a bit of a lesson

Lando went purple in S1 before the gravel rash

The pace seems to be there. On long runs Lando is not inferior to Lewis. That's already good. It's a pity that Lando couldn't do a clean fast run, but I think that in the sprint qualifying everything should be fine.

Telemetry from the soft run for norris

Image

Looks like Merc PU pushing harder than Ferrari/RB to me. If not then it's artefact of deployment across track

Lando's exit out of T1 was by far the best out of the top laps. They (McLaren) have not been pushing power units in practice for a while now.

It isn't the exit lol look at the trace.. the speed difference only explodes at over 300kph. Mcl's trace tracks with RB/Ferrari out of the exit, in traction etc and then late in straight just boom!

Perhaps the reason for this is the beam wing. The Mercedes has a more loaded one than the McLaren.
Considering that the size of the rear wings is comparable, perhaps this has an effect.

I doubt you can get anything useful out of that trace. There is just too many factors. McLaren could have slightly different gearing that helps them or they are deploying energy in a different way. Or maybe there was a car giving a little bit of a tow.

Will both cars have the upgrades? They don't seem to make a difference in lap time from what I've seen
