Anyway Austria was a false dawn. The upgrades may help a lot in terms of McLaren fight but suspension problems affecting curbstrikes, correlation with simulator and the fuel burnoff pace change still are fundmental issues. And decisions about the rb21 will be made in the background whilst the team are still searching for answers for these . Worrying times

And before it's mentioned the flexi-wing won't solve anything major. That's more of an extra to help balance the car.

Om autosport forum a RB employee alludes to the issue affecting rb20 when asked. They say it's not the suspension itself but something the suspension has an effect on

It is also possible that they have a good understanding of the problem and possible solutions/compromises for next year, just struggling to overcome it within the frames of RB20.

They are competitive currently. I wouldn't call Austria a false dawn. As you said on the previous page, it showed that the performance ceiling is high. They didn't have such a qualifying margin in the previous races. Now they have to refine the car. The RB21 will be the first real attempt to cure the weaknesses of the RB20 and there's no reason to think the problems are insurmountable.

Verstappen has been much less vocal about performance in the last week.

Possible but I think it remains ongoing problem solving / searching for solution

And to AR3GP:
I'm not suggesting insurmountable problems but if the solutions are found too late you can't introduce them on the launch spec, and you can end up bringing them at race 5 already too far down in the championship to fight. See McLaren.

Yes the car is still very competitive and the aero itself is phenomenal but every race is undermined by the suspension characteristics at this point

Verstappen actually said the car felt terrible in the race after stint 1 and they have to look into why and understand.

=D>

Well on autosport forum the RB mechanic says they think they fixed the problem but only running on the track will tell the truth. a lot to look forward to

BTW, I would love to hear more about the issues they had during the race. I think it was overlooked during the Norris fallback stuff.
At some earlier stages they discussed something about Gear 7, I think? I didn't understood correctly from the broadcast.
But it doesn't suggest suspension stuff, nor general balance issues?

And then they also discussed some other weird settings. Would be nice to get the radio transcript try to work it out what was going on.

My interpretation of the gear stuff was about charging his battery. As gear 7 has higher rpm and would charge up the battery faster. So running gear 7 giving up top speed but more regeneration was faster than staying at gear 8

Potentially some inboard changes to the suspension for Silverstone?

FIA delegates having a close look on Thursday in this area

A flexier wing will bring a good 1 tenth alone, if not more. The effects it brings is insane, just look at what it did for Mclaren and Mercedes.

*sigh* Hungary it is then.

They said the car would look quite different with their big upgrade package on their statements earlier on the season.

So far, nothing that big.

This is the same region as the Suzuka and Imola floor upgrades. Clearly they aren't happy with what's going on in this area even after 2 changes..

Anyway the tunnels fences and diffuser wait another day

not a big package, but most performance comes from the floor, so let's see

we should have understood yesterday it was only the floor, you don't bother painting a special livery on a not updated bodywork

floor body and edge were lastly updated in Imola

Or a weather related decision to delay the upgrades because they expect interrupted running.
