Well, are you asking from my perspective or from Verstappen's?SirBastianVettel wrote: β04 Jul 2024, 18:28I'm bored and kind of interested in whether y'all think Verstappen should join Mercedes or not. I created a small poll: https://strawpoll.com/6QnMQ75ePne
From Max' perspective. He might have to sacrifice '25 in order to gamble on '26. With Red Bull there are big risks for '26, first time engine builder and no more Newey. Mercedes seems like a safer option for '26, but he might not be able to join in '26 (or '27) if he declines Toto's current offer.terefere wrote: β05 Jul 2024, 08:49Well, are you asking from my perspective or from Verstappen's?SirBastianVettel wrote: β04 Jul 2024, 18:28I'm bored and kind of interested in whether y'all think Verstappen should join Mercedes or not. For me of course he should join Mercedes, I want to see if he would dominate Russell, how he would work with Toto, who RedBull would get to replace him, it would make the season more interesting.
But for Max? Why would he leave a winning team and join a struggling one? Surely the chances are still that RBR will have a better car next year compared to Mercedes.
What if it's Ferrari that will be dominant in '26? Then there isn't even a point in switching to Merc before '26. The safest and smartest move would be to remain at Red Bull.SirBastianVettel wrote:From Max' perspective. He might have to sacrifice '25 in order to gamble on '26. Ferrari would have been an excellent option as wel for Verstappen to gamble on, but Lewis ruined that option. I personally don't see Red Bull doing too well in '26. Honestly I'm not even sure if they'll be dominant in '25. Teams are catching up fast and from what I hear/read '26 will be an engine formula. The two most likely manufacturers to nail the engine regulation are Mercedes and Ferrari imo.Jurgen von Diaz wrote: β05 Jul 2024, 09:01What if it's Ferrari that will be dominant in '26? Max has spoken about driving for Ferrari in the future. If Ferrari were to become dominant or one of the top teams with the new regs, Max's best move would be to join Ferrari in 2027 and for Hamilton to retire.SirBastianVettel wrote:Ferrari would have been an excellent option as wel for Verstappen to gamble on, but Lewis ruined that option. If Ferrari wants to replace Lewis or Leclerc with Verstappen that is. A lot will depend on Lewis' performance next two seasons.Jurgen von Diaz wrote: β05 Jul 2024, 09:14Max has spoken about driving for Ferrari in the future. It would also do more for his reputation if he switched teams and becomes the dominant driver in another team. Even if that team does not create the fastest car.SirBastianVettel wrote: β05 Jul 2024, 08:53From Max' perspective. He might have to sacrifice '25 in order to gamble on '26.
