Alright. This win is enough for the year for me. No matter what else happens, I think I can be satisfied with LH's last year with Merc. The silverstone win at home is as good as it's going to get! I suggest the moderators should close close the thread now till 2025.

These are all LH tracks for sure but if Merc is back (which I think they might be) then they are in the mix for the rest of the season. Have to factor in George's favorite tracks too.

For LH, I'd add Zandvoort and Mexico as two other possible Mercedes possible wins.

We have to discuss the pace. From a clear deficit, they went pound-4-pound against the benchmarks; how does that happen?

If we shift a bit to George I would say he has come of age now. Very confident in his driving and very assured of himself.

With another win in the bag, whoever going to driver for Merc next year, is going to have a go at WDC for sure.

Theoretically, if the W16 is able to challenge for WDC/WCC, why would Toto put an 18 year old rookie in the 2nd seat? Not even Verstappen was put in that situation. Difficult for me to fathom, even with a potential elite talent.

with the next upgrade perhaps, we will be in an even stronger position to really, really be fighting at the front row more consistently.

I think part of it is their new front suspension component. I think it has helped them broaden the setup window tremendously. The rest is just constant cohesive development for weeks and weeks now. Marginal gains everywhere and each part correlating with their sim tools and adding performance.

Toto described development as chugging along like the pre-ground effect days (paraphrasing). Then there are the weekend-to-weekend factors that can play a role. The temperatures helped Merc a bit in Silverstone. The fact that the RB has become a bit of a tire muncher because it now *has* to be quick in quali or it will be shuffled down 4-5 grid spots. They only used to have to worry about LEC.

Just a few thoughts.

I said it previously, but Hungary is tailor-made for Merc. The track, with these modern cars, is essentially all just medium-speed (and some slow-speed) corners. It was completely resurfaced in 2016 and is still nice and smooth. Should be strong there.

Spa will be a huge indicator of how far Merc have come in the efficiency department.

You only need one good driver to challenge for WDC. They already have it. Besides, it's potentially going to be a 3 horse race anyway. Considering it's zero in season development for W16, whatever they come out with in preseason testing is mostly what is going to be raced through the year. Mercedes needs to plan for future and it's not a bad idea to put a rookie in 2025, if they think he is ready. They don't have great choices other than a prima donna Sainz that's harmful for team dynamics. If not a rookie, they can try Yuki if he is available. Fast, maturing and can be a good second driver without a lot if fuss. They can offer one year and then see what options develop for 2026.
