Red Bull RB20

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Wow. It's really quite an upgrade

The downsloping contouring on the side of the engine cover is work of art

The photos from fabrega on Thursday are of checo's car which once again doesn't get the upgrade at the same time as max

No one has managed to get a clear shot of the secondary halo duct that used to be on the car, but it seems different, if it's still there? There's a hump in the bodywork on the backside suggesting a duct entrance, but the inlet (new or old) has not yet been photographed.

Similar to the engine cover design they had in the initial RB18, just more developed

According to Dr Obbs its a modular upgrade for high downforce tracks. In my mind this would mean that it is a fairly strong upgrade in performance to warrant a change like that

That seems a little bit strange to me as that would mean the update doesn't address the problems they had on low and medium downforce circuits, of which there are many more later this year.

Why would they develop something for 2-3 tracks (Monaco, Singapore, Hungary). Not sure I believe that theory yet.

Given the degradation issues, unless the added drag is too high, I don't see why they would go back to lower downforce modes if this bodywork gives more downforce and better tire management. And I am also unsure why this will add more drag somehow -- as others have noted, it appears to be a developed version of the RB18, and the RB18 was glorious from an efficiency point of view.

So they basicly recognized they got some of the launch concepts wrong

Hmmm so that's the w14 style aero removed. I somehow doubt this was their problem though.
