It’s sustainable if your pilots aren’t crash prone.CjC wrote: ↑17 Jul 2024, 14:12Andrew Shovlin:

‘3 to 4 upgrades to practically the last 8 to 9 races’….
A line for those who think Merc haven’t brought many performance updates this season.
Also surely that rate isn’t sustainable within the cost cap?
Mercedes seems to be immune to any cost cap, the number of changes, b-cars, c-cars, they bring yearly is absolutely not seen in any other team...CjC wrote: ↑17 Jul 2024, 14:12Andrew Shovlin:

Imo it seems like a lot because instead of bringing things all at once they spread them out, even their only big upgrade so far was split over two weekends, otherwise the upgrades are pretty small. their biggest upgrades have been a new front wing and floors. Iirc they've only made tweaks to their rear wing and haven't brought a new one like others, their bodywork and sidepods are also still launch specRikhart wrote: ↑17 Jul 2024, 20:09Mercedes seems to be immune to any cost cap, the number of changes, b-cars, c-cars, they bring yearly is absolutely not seen in any other team...CjC wrote: ↑17 Jul 2024, 14:12Andrew Shovlin:

Wasn't even refering to this year, but in the previous 2 it was quite amazing to see the amount of overhauls they did to the car.Luscion wrote: ↑17 Jul 2024, 20:20Imo it seems like a lot because instead of bringing things all at once they spread them out, even their only big upgrade so far was split over two weekends, otherwise the upgrades are pretty small. their biggest upgrades have been a new front wing and floors. The most interesting part of this graph is that Williams has only brought 6 upgrades, and it has some of the most wind tunnel and CFD time.
W13 and W14 floors were also cut and shut, lots of cannablised bits that were reformulated as measures to cut costs.PlatinumZealot wrote: ↑18 Jul 2024, 01:50RedBull and McLaren were also going hog wild with upgrades and their compliqnce with the budget cap was under scrunity.
Yes Mercedes did quite a few upgrades but it was clear they were crap produced from a child's colouring book and not the wind tunnel so obviously very cheap upgrades
That’s quite interesting actually. I think they will underspend until they can allocate to ‘26.
As reported by Vowles, they prioritized making the car 10kg lighter. This cost a lot of money.
