Just wondering why you said Verstappen ‘was’ gonna get pole. After his second run on his new set he was still slower than Lando and that would have probably been session finished?

Not really. They made two mistakes.

1. In Q1 they used two sets, they could and should have used one. The car is much faster than Q1 cars.
2. That same second run in Q1 they left the pits very late, Norris just managed to start his lap but Piastri didn't make it. If there was more improvement on track, PIA could have been eliminated.

Due to 1. Norris had only one new soft in the Q3 but luckily he made a great lap.

Btw I am very surprised Verstappen didn't try a new lap?

Agreed with both. This is something which they should look at.
Probably Q1 was more complicated because of the improving conditions. Not that being the last runner/s is wrong, because the grip is usually the best for the last runner/s.

Even with two runs on Q3 Max didn’t. And he knew he couldn’t so he got out of the car and didn’t try after red flag. Lando and Oscar with McLaren performed this exceptionally!
