Can we now agree to stop thinking McLaren is running higher engine modes in free practices?
I don't think that narrative ever existed. But sometimes they are pushing a bit more. And sometimes they push a little less. In general Ferrari tend to push a little more than us in practise and this has been a more reliable trait.

RB have, however, been written off and come back in qualifying more than once. Ignoring that is silly. Today was extremely close and the conditions very different from yesterday. RB easily has the capability in different conditions to be the car in front, as it has been many times on a Saturday.

We finally got an 1-2 ahead of the competition and I even believe Mclaren had 2 more tenths to give. It's been so long since we dominated a qualification. It reminded me of the glory days of Senna/Prost, Hakkinnen/Coulthard and Alonso/Hamilton. After the orange era of the early 70s, the red white Marlboro era of the 80s and early 90s, the black and white West era of the late 90s and early 2000s and the chrome Vodafone/Emirates era of the late 2000s and early 2010s it's time for the papaya colour to write their own story and what better start than a dominating 1-2 giving a clear message to the drinks company that Mclaren Empire is coming to take back the rightful throne that left vacant for so long. But we only did half the work on Saturday. Tomorrow we need both cars in front of Max and whoever is 2nd must play shield to burn the tyres of Max with dirty air and if possible give him a taste of his own medicine if he tries to force a pass or crash attitude.

Hoping that major updates don’t upset car balance or the team’s understanding of it. General trend this season has been of other teams stumbling after planned upgrades, likely because there are no major changes left to discover, only clever and minor refinements - in other words, the concepts have matured and the ceiling is close. I have faith, but I will continue to be nervous until the post-summer updates are validated on-track.

I've been watching Verstappen's wide line in turn 1 and wondering why he chooses it (better on the tyres for later in the lap?). Seems like Piastri's more traditional apex gives a better exit.

What's the blip on Piastri's distance graph after turn 5? A small snap?

Does anyone know how long is Hungaroring main straight compared to previous tracks, is it a long way to turn 1? Keeping to those first 2 positions at the start could help us greatly... Clean air + good pace seems like a recipe for the win.

I don’t know the distances but I believe it’s the 4th longest run down to turn one #-o

On the second thought, our pace seems really at the top. Even if we lose a position or two at start, we could get it back. I just hope Max doesn't go Mad Max style and ending the race for our boys at turn 1. Fingers crossed [-o<

If my memory serves me correctly, the length of the main straight is 900 meters, from the starting straight to the first turn about 600.
