Seidl has a poor record in F1, nothing like his WEC period. McLaren are thriving since his departure, and much of that is supposedly thanks to a better work environment. Oh, and probably Rob Marshall, haha

??? This is short sighted. He took over a McLaren on the ground and started to build the structure they are winning on now. He brought the team from nothing to 5 podiums in 2021.
I think any team here would profit from him in operations, so why not Ferrari.

I think it is a bit of a myth that McLaren doesn't understand why their Miami upgrade was as effective. It all comes down from Stella saying that it looks like on track it is stronger than expected but that it can be explained because driver confidence can't be simulated. If the car was on edge and gains some performance (and stability), the gains may be larger than expected as the drivers can drive better.

All McLaren upgrades in last two years worked very well. I think it is very unlikely that they don't understand why.
There was a comment earlier than that where they said they weren't sure why their low speed performance improved so much.

And there's a difference between "I dont understand why the car is faster" and "I dont understand why the car is faster by as much as it is". Of course they'll have a good idea about much of the update making the car faster, but the extent of it seemed to surprise them(and basically everybody else). Which makes sense, given it's very rare to see an update that incredibly effective. I think there likely would have been more buzz about this planned upgrade beforehand if they really expected it was going to take them to a near dominant position in the competitive order.

And I really dont think it's just 'driver confidence' making the rest of the difference. It is visible from onboards that the car is simply transformed in terms of driving characteristics.

Totally different situation.
Well, the possible situation at Ferrari hasnt come up to compare.
And his “success” in McLaren is not encouraging, as he left and Stella rebuilt the team and processes on his own way, it became better, much better judging by the results.
FORZA FERRARI!

McLaren switched to Mercedes engines for 2021, were allowed some concessions as a result on top of tokens and brought the most developed car between 2020 and 2021. Remember the cars were carried over for 2021.

WCC position was pretty much unchanged during his tenure, floating between 3 and 5.

After the regulations change, McLaren were nowhere again, fighting for scraps.

Zak Brown happily let him go without gardening leave. From reading snippets here and there, his management style isn't really desirable.

He isn't going to add any value to Ferrari based on his actual F1 record. The contrasting fortune of McLaren and Sauber says a lot.

So how do we think Ferrari will shape up at Spa?

Any chance they can fight for the win with this rear wing?

Nope. The fight will be between McL, Merc, RBR, whichever of the three finds the best setup

While it's obvious that Ferrari isn't favorite to win here, we're still yet to see how the low-df configuration works on the new car and Spa was partly resurfaced which has a unknown impact other than the fact that it will probably be faster. Rain might also throw thing off, in that case badly for Ferrari as we have seen.

While I think Ferrari still have work to do issues to solve and so I don't see them competing at the sharp end, I don't see Mercedes in that fight either, give or take a little, in terms of pecking order they are roughly in the same place as Ferrari and if Ferrari are not in the running nor are Mercedes in my opinion...

Must be running more DF than the other teams.

First runs are 2-3 tenths slower in S1/S3 than the competition.

The bouncing in T10, 11, 12, 13, 16, 17 is scary on Leclerc on board. Reminds me of Miami in 23' when Charles spun out in Q, looks on the edge.

Ignoring FP1, with the rain tomorrow... will probably be a difficult weekend for us, short of a miracle.

Why was the S3 time so insanely bad? Engine mode shenanigans?
