Mech grip not such a detriment on a wet Spa but for two turns really. If it rains the aero grip will still serve you very well here through all those high speed stuff.

Yes thinking about it my comment doesn't make too much sense. In fact Red Bull might gain from the reduced kerb riding in the wet? Any whom cold weather is Mercedes' best friend so I hope it comes

Bono told Hamilton in I think FP2 that main losses were straights and that made me more hesitant to hit the panic button.

While they had the lowest top speeds, Im not sure with the way they complained about grip and balance in the interviews after practice that its down to engine modes. Shovlin also said they're losing time everywhere not just in specific corners

Mercedes was running a barn door wing so it's not surprising they lose a ton of time on the straights and are ok in the corners.

well a car that can use kerbs effecively in the wet can be faster, you can hook the inside wheels over a big kerb which drags you around the corner, especially at low speed. the issue is when your car is very stiff and bounces off a kerb instead of riding it which can totally ruin a lap. Unpainted concrete that is off the racing line also has a ton of grip and is normally found just on the inside of a kerb, if you can get on it you have a ton of grip and the kerb is hooking you which can find you lots of time. safe to say I'd rather be in the merc for a wet quali lap, even if you could extract the same lap in the redbull it would be so much easier to do in the merc.

I am all for the low downforce direction here, but with wings like Alpin and Williams, you get murdered in the middle sector (lap time and maybe also tyre deg). Thats too much.
