They may have had Infiniti branding all over the car, did that benefit the Renault engine department, not sure! Apparently Infiniti is a combination of Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi, for me I`d have had Renault plastered all over the car so there was no mistaking who produced the engine powering the car!

Anecdotal: A pal of mine had an Infiniti Q50 which was a very nice car. I asked him if he knew who the manufacturer of the car he drove was. The only name he mentioned was Nissan, the lad had no idea Renault were involved at all!

Renault from the top have made many bad choices, not invested the right amount of money and while they didn`t get the credit they deserved from Red Bull (imo), they only really have themselves to blame, it`s a shame it looks likely we`ll lose them from the grid...

I remember those days .....Renault was behind back then too. They needed another one of those special deals to allow them to catch up. Not unlike recent years, always the runt of the bunch.

At least that was forgivable. 2006 they had a top tier engine, and all the engines were frozen. Merc and Ferrari then got ahead in the 2 years by adding performance and Charlie Whiting concluded that it was alright.

That's probably just before the cutting started right? Isn't it why Alonso left ? cause Renault were cutting back massively?

Alonso signed for mclaren at the end of 2005, before V8 era started.

He was not sure by Carlos Ghosn's commitment to F1. I am quiet sure the engine department was scaled back in 2006, right after the engine freeze.

Renault had every chance to buy the same Red Bull sponsorship which Infiniti purchased (or even Aston Martin or Tag Heuer, lol), yet they chose not to. :)

As you imply, Renault immediately downplayed the Infiniti branding in 2016 having taken it over from RBR. Infiniti was not very prominent on the Renault Sport F1 team car or uniforms at all (and soon disappeared entirely?!).

As a far cry from prominent purple Infiniti sidepods on the Red Bull, it's almost like Renault did not back Infiniti 100% as Renault's prestige car brand (could a future Vel Satis luxury Renault hatch have been badged as an Infiniti?).

Were the huge contrasts between the Japanese idea of a luxury car (the Nissan Fuga/Infiniti M) to the French idea of a luxury car (the Renault Vel Satis) irrecoverable under a unified Nissan-Renault prestige flagship brand?

Then Nissan-Renault COO (and now Stellantis CEO) Tavares even floated the idea of making a separate prestige brand for Renault back in 2012.
https://europe.autonews.com/article/201 ... vares-says

I guess Alpine is Renault's prestige brand "of sorts" even if it focus solely on sporting and performance cars? :)

For the sake of comparison the Renault branding is even smaller on the Alpine-Renault F1 Team than on the Infinti Red Bull Racing-Renault F1 Team!

The current Renault logo is barely visible TBH.

Honda and Renault should rightly take 100% responsibility for making an uncompetitive literal interpretation of the V8 engine freeze. Given that Ferrari and Mercedes are ruthless to win at any cost, of course they will push engine development to the maximum. :)

Renault staff are furious! :(

Dear, oh dear.

Renault Group's management plans to stop the 2026 programme at Viry-Chatillon and opt for an engine supply, probably from Mercedes. The reason given is a significant direct saving, trading development costs of $120million for $17million in annual supply.

The announcement of the end of the development and production of French power units for Formula 1 is incomprehensible. We cannot accept that Alpine and the Renault Group damage their images, which is why we ask Mr. De Meo and his board of directors to renounce this decision.
- Social and Economic Council of Alpine employees in Viry-Chatillon (Conseil Social et Economique)
https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/renau ... /10646948/

What incomprehensibly poor management by Group Renault. If the Power Unit had been well funded with 250-500m USD per annum since 2012 ("win at any cost"), they would more than likely have a superb unit with numerous customers. The Enstone chassis would likely be very good if a budget of 500m-750m USD per annum ("win at any cost") had been allocated since 2015 (around 30-100% higher budget than Mercedes GP would the perfect level to target to ensure the best chance of victory). :)

Hopefully Group Renault will revert decision and see future glory in Formula One!

Its all to make it easier to sell. Mr Oakes is likely the buyer, Hitech GP!

Team is not for sale.
Flavio Briatore insists Alpine is not for sale and says Renault chairman Luca de Meo “never wants to sell the , there is nothing for sale,” Briatore said.

To be clear, they never wanted to give up controlling interest. They're on the record to have said they wanted to sell and have sold shares of Alpine.

I don't care either way what they do with PU division. If they're gonna be in it, then be in it like Merc or Honda(to be the best). Don't end up being an Anchor on Alpine(an also ran). I hope, that Alpine aren't seeing a lack of investment there and that is impitus for looking to get out from behind Renault PUs.

Briatore saying it was not his idea to go with Mercedes and he havents suggested closing Viry.

Is it the start of rollback of the idea? Hopefully.

What is the matter with these Schumachers? Alpine gave Mick a shot and it was not served properly for a name like Schumacher? Is this family expecting a red carpet wherever they want a seat?
