Scary times if youre a Merc fan, handing the keys to RUS is a problem. Really makes you understand Wolffs pursuit of VER
Hilarious. Russell literally clocked in another head to head qualifying and race placement beat on Hamilton this weekend.

Yet Hamilton fans are treating this like a win because Russells strategy was botched and hamilton finished close but still behind him. Well guess what , it wasn't a win.

Russell literally got ahead of Piastri at the start. The fastest car on the grid. And everyone's new golden boy

The guy is a fast qualifier but his race pace has been a problem since the Williams days. Belgium was a hail mary that paid off and ultimately didn't pay off. Today is a better representation of his true level. Yes, next year Merc are in trouble unless Antonelli turns out to be God tier.
Wrong. Get your facts right. Russell's race pace is faster than Hamilton's this year. And 2022. This kind of nonsense you are spewing should be considered trolling. To say a race winner, pole sitter and the head to head leading teammate at Mercedes is a problem for the team next year is just trolling. Its sophistry.

Not sure his strategy got botched, he would have been passed by Sainz either way if they didnt pit him for softs and would have finished 2 places ahead of Lewis if he didnt pit, one started P4, the other P14

I mentioned in an earlier post, getting in to top 8 isn't a problem for any of the top 4 team drivers, regardless of where they start from. Such is the gulf between top 4 teams and the rest. Carlos would have overtaken George today with the race pace he had, but Perez could have struggled. So it was a bad call to pit George and lose 2 positions.

Hamilton's recovery is the only positive for the team this weekend. After bringing updates from Spa and using them here, team finishes 7-8 and scores 10p. Wolff and Russell live in a world of their own, believing they can fight McLaren and RB in normal conditions. What Hamilton managed in Hungary and Spa was admirable

Might not be setup after all, Toto seems to suspect it could be the upgrade package

We have to look at the upgrade kit, there is something big that didn't work here.

Beating the the midfield that's miles behind the top 4 is a recovery?

In case anyone is wondering why the gap to RUS increased at the end.

Btw. RUS was given the hurry up when HAM was on a charge by his engineer such was the poor pace.

This is a little bit complacent by Hamilton but understandable since he isn't really fighting for anything meaningful.

hamilton tends to ease of at the final laps when there is not chance of overtaking. He just looked after the car and the tires

He slowed pace to prep the battery ready for an attack lap & was advised it wasn’t necessary; hardly HAM being complacent here - he was ready to go!

Sure, but it's F1 silent code that fast lap attempts from rival teams will come on the very last lap. Hamilton has been in this sport for years. He knows this. It was a bad call by Mercedes to call it off, I agree. It's a very minor point, not to belabor it. I just think he wasn't that eager.

Exactly - blame the pitwall, not the pilot. Second guessing Bono who has the data is a bit of a nonsense.

Toto Wolff post-race: “It was pretty bad. Last race weekend you finish first and second and then seven and eight. We clearly got one or more junctions wrong in how the car was running. It’s very bruising but sometimes you need the bruises to make a big step again.”

“[George] terribly ran out of tyres so that’s why we had to switch to the two stop. Lewis had a lock up and that’s why a two stop there. But overall Lewis’ pace was good, I think that was correct. George it was a different set up direction that we need to evaluate.”
