Kimi was on the way to beat Hamilton's time but crashed. Not a good debut.
on the bright side, from the limited running he got, he seems fast for a rookie
Yes the speed is definitely there.

Yeah 6 tenths down on the first try EVER is actually not bad at all considering how much forward growth he has to go through.

Also, anyone who starts calling him "crashtonelli" better remember what happened to the last crash prone 18 year old.

Not a good start comparing to Bearman's debut at Saudi. Both are very similar high speed track.

This is expected for rookie, which is why Ferrari put Bearman in Hass instead Ferrari

I guess next time they'll tell him to take it a bit easier.

Man what have they done to this track. The flat kerbs have taken character out of it ...

Flat curbs are basically just track. I genuinely dont understand why they exist. It's also a huge regression from the progress other tracks have made in making the 'track limits issue' something that can only properly be addressed by providing driver-penalizing obstacles.

New motor in the back of Russell's car as well.

Seems like a stupid move and should have waited until tomorrow to fit the new PU IMO. Was Wolff aiming for Antonelli to do glory runs all FP1?

So they have removed the right hand side kerbs in the braking zone for Ascari… that could catch someone out a bit when pushing..

Yeah, to cause fear in Verstappen and convince him to do the early move.

This one could be a close race - but limited DRS effect with those small wings and this formula...going to be a big train. I suspect RB will have the edge, mlc/fer close....could be a boring race with the first lap/corner deciding it?

Track feels like a pancake. I know it was flat before but the new curbs make it feel even more so.

Agree.

You can teach someone to be careful, you can’t teach them to be fast. I think that’s a James Hunt quote, or similar.
