Not really. Sainz almost lost the car in the last corner.
Hopefully they will find a better balance.

Leclerc is usually very very good at understanding if the car is great or not. Remember Spain?

Sainz almost did an Antonelli, but he was hugely fast.

I'm not too worried about either driver's times right now. It's FP1 in an already interrupted session on a new spec on a newly paved track that many drivers are having issues with. Leclerc also seemed to struggle in FP last week, only to get a solid result in qualifying.

If in FP3 they're still complaining about almost losing the car every turn, then I'll start to be concerned...

VER and LEC both pretty slow in S1 so lots more to come from there.

Car looked quick but tricky to drive. Leclerc had a moment in turn 6 and Sainz almost lost it in the parabolica.

Sainz made a mistake in S3 of his last lap, else he likely would've been slightly above Leclerc. He was especially rapid in S2, same as last year - the only person faster than him there is Verstappen.

Ideally, Leclerc's mechanical issue was holding him back and he'll magically find a tenth in FP2... but realistically, they just need to find a comfortable setup. I'm sure it'll come, a lot of drivers struggled with grip this session so it's not only them.

Leclerc was comfortably better than everyone else but Verstappen was fastest by the same margin.

FP2 will paint a clearer picture hopefully.
