Alonso
“And we need to get better, we need to understand the car better, we need to bring some new parts for the next races and try to be as we started the year, we were not fighting with the top four teams, but we were a couple of tenths clear of the midfield and we were in that middle position and we want to be back by Abu Dhabi, by the last race.”
Williams and Alpine were a few kilos overweight at the start of the season so I think the gap to them at the start of the year was exaggerated. It doesn't mean Aston didn't move forward.
The amr24 from the beginning of the year is superior to this one, before you were fighting with Mercedes, now you dream about it at night

Aston (so far) in FP1 continues with the lower top speed trend post-Spa

Is it a joke, the only quality they had now they lose it on the tracks where they could express it? Hahaha I'm laughing

Of the 13 cars with a faster top speed than AMR in FP1, only 6 had faster BEST lap time. Of those 6, 2 were 1 KPH faster and other 2 KPH faster.

Of the 6 cars with the highest top speed only 2 made the top 10.

If you look at RIC as an example, he`s 3KPH faster on the start finish straight but is on average 2 KPH slower on every corner, sooner on the brakes and later on the throttle.

Not better than before vacation, unfortunately. Almost 0.9 sec on this track is a disaster honestly.

Looks like we are about half a second off ferrari and about 7 tenths off Merc and 8 tenths off RBR and Mclaren.
So if we qualify 7 or 8 and get a good start we could really ruin someones like Perez or Sainz.

Does anybody know the delta time for someone to pass at Monza?

I have a theory on why Stroll is closer to Alonso, I believe that if the Astons found pace like last year that Alonso would pull a large gap again on Stroll, as with a faster car there is more potential for the top driver to find the extra pace, and if feel like this car is slow with no potential to find extra pace, that i feel like Alonso has reached the cars maximum performance and literaly is at the limit while Stroll is getting closer to the cars limit too.
Like after Alonso's Q3 qualy last weekend on the radio ( he said there's no more pace)

The difficulties with passing at Monza are:
1- It isn`t hard on the tires, leads to a 1 stop race, which decreases overcut/undercut opportunities.
2 - High speed tracks tend to have cars with low DF rear wings, therefore, decreasing the DRS effect.

It's always been hard to pass there....

It would be easier to pass in a lot of places if teams could only have 1 rear wing for the year and it was medium load. Bigger hole punched in the air at Monza. More mistakes at street tracks.

I presume the ride height will go down tomorrow cause the track is smoother this year. So we'll see if that improves their pace more than it does others.

I think that Alonso doesn't care about getting points, much less about fighting to get into the top 10. He wants to fight to win the world championship and for me he is not giving his all because he is not motivated. Guys, this situation makes me laugh, they were fighting for the podium, now they are happy if they get 5th in the constructors at planetary distances from the others. With races in which they are slower than the other teams too

I think it's a combination of 2 things that STR is currently pace wise pretty even.

1)
Something on this car is absolutely not to the liking of ALO

2)
He doesn't care too much going into the weekends and with a less active approach, you won't find the last tenth in set up. That doesn't mean however that he isn't given everything comes Q. Noone wants to lose against his teammate. Reminds me a bit of some McLaren races in past years. Commentators and others have said not only once that his body language is pretty negative, when he walks through the paddock, unlike last year...

Alonso should focus on "destroying" Stroll, that should be his motivation when the car is so bad, otherwise what is the point of racing if you have no goals?
