Yeah im intrigued by the suspension change, was it really that bad that he thinks it will be a detriment to his race pace. To be fair if that loss of pace in sector 2 translates to overall racepace then he will be vulnerable, he was losing half a second there to George and even more to the others. His sector 3 has been quite good though so im slightly perplexed. Also a chance of a safety car maybe high but it wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't happen. Damage limitation this race.

Does anyone know the exact reason for the suspension and engine change?

If i had to guess, they decided to do set up changes after Lewis was complaining about not being able to get heat into the tires, He's giving up P7 for a pitlane start so they must have found a big enough improvement to justify it and since a setup change under parc ferme is an automatic pit lane start they probably decided to just take the engine penalty here too.

Okay, logical explanation.

Lewis Hamilton on taking a new PU: “We lost an engine earlier in the year so making to the end of the year with only a couple of engines was not going to be so easy. But it’s okay, I think it’s probably the best circuit to do so, as George said we’re quick on the straights so it’ll be an interesting afternoon. Not gonna be easy but I’ll do my best.”

“I think it should be a little bit better [tyre wise] we’ve been able to make some changes to the car, there were a couple of things that weren’t right on the car for qualifying. I’m hoping that the car is in a better place today.”

Still terrible on the corners…they dropped from 7th to pit lane to still have the same issues. Mindboggling.

Ultimately, Mercedes are getting trounced by three different teams. And one of them is a Perez led team today.

Only the first stint of the race didn’t drive very well; in the second part of the race, Russell was one of the fastest after Norris, so I don’t understand that Merc has been having problems lately in the first stages

Yea both drivers complaining about grip, Russell tires got better towards the end of the race, Lewis saying he had to drive the car in a c shape (whatever that means). Russell in no man's land most of the race and Lewis struggling to pass a Haas
