They could have been well behind for example.

And yet the wing didnt really make a difference in Monza so I dont see where the fuss is about. As I said its not like it was something like asymmetric braking or the DAS that gave more than 5 tenths in race time.
Mclaren was the fastest car in free air in Monza, just because they "lost" it doesn't mean it wasn't making them faster.

I didn’t read an article and I think they journo said it was worth a tenth on the 2.2km straight in Baku
AMS published an article few days ago that the effect was quite small - they compared speeds of Piastri and Leclerc before DRS flap opens (after which mini DRS is no longer visible) and they didn't notice a big difference in speeds up to DRS opening point. If miniDRS had a significant effect you'd be able to see it before DRS opens.

"Journo saying it was worth a tenth" seems to be that Red Bull claimed that is what McLaren gained - in this article you see mention of it https://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/for ... en-verbot/

"Red Bull claims to have calculated that this trick is worth one to two tenths"

"The FIA initially saw no reason to act because McLaren had passed all stationary stress tests, because all wings always bend in some way and because, according to their calculations, McLaren had no significant advantage over its opponents."

McLaren statement:
"Whilst our Baku rear wing complies with the regulations and pass all FIA deflection tests, McLarne have proactively offered to make some minor adjustments to the wing following our conversations with the FIA.

We would expect FIA to have similar conversations with other teams in relation to the compliance of their rear wings."

Shots fired by McLaren. AMUS seems to think Ferrari may be required to make changes as well.

Also as add on: @wearetherace: "McLaren is expected to adapt the wing so it does not deform the same way in the future. As it is a low-drag rear wing, though, it would likely only be used at one more race - the Las Vegas Grand Prix. It will therefore need to be reinforced for that event."

So bending of the flap edges on the straights will not be allowed, even if the wing passes the static deflection tests. The 2024 impact will be only in las vegas. And the FIA statement is only about flap edges not the entire RW bending at high speed.

McLaren will change the wing. Everyone can relax. No "mini DRS" anymore.

Let's come back to this after Las Vegas.
Is it the rear flex or just the leading edges??

The only deformation is the leading edge.

I fully expect this wing to flex still.

Just the 10cm on either end of the wing.

Exactly. Mini DRS will be fine.

Dr.Helmut Marko admitted that Red Bull constant whining gave results. They are now focusing on Mclaren's front wing.

Good lap by Lando, considering he had some cars around on some corners which may have distracted him. Leclerc was clear all the way through.

Fair play to him. People have done the sane about Red Bull.

Amazing lap from Lando in FP2, for the moment, 1:30:7,. For the moment seems Lando vs Leclerc. Oscar too far behind (+0.75). Verstappen is nowhere (+1.3).

Yeah it's unfortunate, but Oscar is on the back foot. Hopefully he will have time to review today what Lando is doing and come back stronger tomorrow.
