One thing we can take from FPs and qualy, McLaren is consistently one of the fastest.

Other teams fluctuate a lot. Yesterday Red Bull was no where, Ferrari was fast. Now the opposite. In Baku Mercedes was slow, now they are P3 and P4.

This is good news for the team as it means they understand the car and setup. It has a huge window compared to others.

Sadly it looks unlikely that Lando can challenge for WDC but WCC looks to be winnable.

What a turnaround.

It's been one of the fastest since race 4 even though the first upgrade was race 7. But since Miami it has been the outright fastest at many GPs.

WDC needs one DNF from Max to spice it up.

Lewis vs Max might help. Lewis knows Max will not risk a crash. And if Piastri can get a jump then who knows.

My read on it too.

The car had at least a low 29s in it.

This car (at least visually) is perhaps the most driveable one in this track. It looks predictable and calm.

I can see Lando made some minor mistakes with the placement on entries and missed 1-2 apexes slightly in S2, but other than that, can't see where he could have gained more. Nevertheless, I am not the one driving so perhaps Lando felt he could have pushed some of those corners a bit more.

Though when Lando was purple purple before tge Sainz crash, we don't know what he would have got.

He said the lap that got interrupted was better than his eventual pole lap.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Before slowing, he was around 7 tenths up on his eventual pole lap.

Lando was one of the few at the top to improve on their Q2 time. Which speaks more of how much time was on the table in Q2, especially evidenced by his aborted Q3 lap.

The Mclaren was streets ahead today.

As Daniel Valente said it on X:

Only four McLaren drivers have qualified on pole at least 5 times in a single season over the last 3 decades:

• Lando Norris (2024)
• Lewis Hamilton (2012, 2008, 2007)
• Kimi Raikkonen (2005)
• Mika Hakkinen (1999, 1998)

Welcome to the club, Lando.

Basically similar to last year yet it's now McLaren at the front rather than Red Bull, with the front-runners mixing it up behind.

I actually think it will be easier when full of fuel and does not have to be manhandled from corner to corner

A few comments (probably justified!) re Lando's starts, though I honestly think it doesn't matter too much if he's 2nd after the 1st lap - he has the car, pace, and patience, to stay out of trouble and let the race come to him for the win. Just hope the team are on it with strategy - imo their weakest link atm.

Oscar maybe didn't produce one of his best Q's, though it's easy to forget how 'young' he is in F1. He can finish on the podium from there, and hopefully help keep some oppo at bay.

It is best if he turns 1st and let Max struggle with the Mercedes while he is on clean air. We don't need to lose time behind Max.
