It has been a while where I have been so nervous or excited for FP1.

I think this past year has shown that changes don't necessarily mean upgrades. So here is hoping that trend continues and hits McLaren.

RB20 has had a lot of upgrades and I wonder if the Team feels that some of the performance they expected would be unlock now that the core issue has been addressed. Time will tell.

To be honest it's risky to bring a huge all-out upgrade package here, since there's only one free practice, not nearly enough time to find the right setup, if you change too many elements. I think that's why Red Bull is concentrating only on the floor, further developing the "frankfenstein floor" they introduced in Baku, which aims to solve their stability problems first. A floor upgrade can have a huge impact on stability, particularly in how the car behaves through high-speed corners and under braking, and we know that the floor generates 60% of the total downforce. If they can solve the stability issues, they will likely regain the performance edge without overwhelming the team with too many changes during a race weekend with limited time.

Interesting that Red Bull felt the need to go on a quick soft lap so early, while others are still doing long stints on the hard.

VER-PER gap did not get closer if that's an indication to anything.

Encouraging the gap is how it is given track evo. McLaren and Merc look a handful but it’s prime sandbagging time

Updates are more made for Max not Perez.

Quite to the contrary. The updates are aimed at reducing the instability that hurts Checo more than Max

Yeah but with my eyes I saw Max had the fastest first sector. Which usually means the car has a good front-end grip in medium-high speed corners.

Sure but that doesn't mean what you said about the update is true. From what we've been told the update will reduce instability and they can trace it back to 2023 Barcelona, prior to which checo was closer to the pace than afterwards, and they hope he will find his feet again

Perez complained about low speed corners on the radio.

What was the balance like? Any Max complaints? I missed most of FP1 due to my VPN being nerfed by F1tv so had to find a alternative.

no complaints from Max other than his tires started too cold on one of the runs, balance seems pretty good

It's pretty good lap from Max.
