Lol this is meant to set foundations for next year. I’ll give them a benefit of the doubt since only had 1 practice session.

But onboard with Alonso the car was not turning at all
Yeah I watched the onboard, he had two huge snaps before he went outside of tack limits too...

Did he have those snaps previously?

Sadly, that was an awful qualifying from the whole team. That doesn't excuse the drivers, but this time, we should be more furious with the team... Why did they send them out with only 3 mins to go? It was so obvious 2 runs would be the safe bet here, considering the conditions (only 1 hour of practice time, new asphalt, track limits)...

Alonso and the team should break parc ferme rules and change the setup for the sprint, as it is going to be meaningless anyhow.

Tricky car as Alonso said, sometime if you push the car to the limit you will end up with a slow lap so you need to push the car right % window to go fast. So still early to learn how the new update works.

Oh no. I realized we sound like the team after a new update.

They seem to struggle when there is only one practice, especially with upgrades, but yeah, should probably consider changing setup and start at the back in the sprint

Almost everyone else except Perez improved between 5 to 8 tenths from SQ1 to SQ2. Stroll made a slower lap and Alonso barely improved. It feels weird

Lap is garbage in general.

Stroll
"The car felt alright in SQ1, but in SQ2 it became very tricky to drive and we got caught out by track limits. We've got more work to do tonight to look through the data we've collected and understand how we can optimise the updates we’ve brought to the car. I think pace-wise we're in a similar place to where we have been all season."
Not sure why in SQ2 they didn't improve as much as the others at all. Alonsos lap was very poor and I havent seen Strolls but it was 2 tenths worse so god knows how it was.

seen canal plus specifically grosjean was saying alonso was sick and vandoorne was ready to replace him

regards to sprint qualy. i think it was more due to setup change. alonso was a lot quicker in speed traps in sprint qualy compared to fp1

It could be that there was a setup change before Sprint qualy as @SSJ4 says. Maybe Aston lowered downforce but that made the car uneasy to drive? However I think they should have gone through to SQ3 regardless.

I can see at least 4 mistakes around the SQ2 lap. Turn 1, Turn 13, Turn 15 and Turn 19. Ill use Magnussens lap as comparison. First turn 1

Even after missing the apex and losing what looks like a tenth and a half from that, the rest of sector 1 and 2 is decent and arrives at the end of sector 2 completely equal to Mag. But here comes the Turn 13 & Turn 15 mistakes

Image

Which makes him lose two tenths and a half compared to Mag. Lost the rear in 13 and missed the apex in 15. Finally he went long in the penultimate turn and lifted trying to avoid track limits although it got cancelled anyway, and the last one didn't seem to be good either. Another two tenths lost which puts him 4.5 tenths behind Mag.

It could be that the car might have been more difficult to drive after the setup change, but in any case to me it seems that both Alo & Stroll were poor and a better driver could've put the Aston in SQ3. Imo with a clean lap before sector 3 it could have been a tenth quicker than Mag and finish the lap a tenth behind or so overall, but not 4.5 tenths. Alonso continues to show signs of aging in my view but Stroll is hiding them somewhat.
