Colapinto is so good. Completely unexpected, but he's absolutely killing it. I hope he manages to snag a permanent seat for 2025 or 2026.

A bit difficult to judge today's performance, tbh, as the car didn't get the softs to work at all, so both drivers were mostly sliding around. But yeah, he made the most of it, I'd think, so that's good.

Going by the runs on race tires, the Williams should easily be faster than the cars ahead tomorrow. Will be interesting to see if they can make use of it or get stuck in traffic now.

Is it true that Colapinto didn't have DRS on his final run in Q2?

there was an issue on the final straight, it did work for those before. Going by F1Tempo, it cost him around 0.020s

Okay. Just checking because that would have been eye opening otherwise...

I thought it was just me, but it looks like people are already starting to catch on: I thought I saw the grandson or reincarnation of Senna in Colapinto. I saw him and I thought wait a minute, and then I looked it up to see others have made a similar comparison.

Am I the only one who thinks they should cancel Sainz's contract and sign Franco on a long term deal?

As harsh as it could sound, I'd put Colapinto in a contract for 2026.

This way, Williams have 2025 to choose Sainz or Albon.

I think that Sainz has a contract for 2026 (Albon as well?) but everything is a matter of money.

Agreed.

In fact, it was strange to push so hard to have SAI before having testing COL, they should have remove SAR much much earlier, and test COL in the begining of the season.

Then they would have had no reason to sign SAI.

On top of that, SAI coming from Ferrari to Williams makes me think about BOT, I like SAI, but will he be motivated ?
Seems like an end of career for him

To me, Vowles sounds like he wants a bunch of driving experience to carry Williams forward. The times of being at the bottom seem to having come to an end.

Vowles said on the podcast that they have the best drivers on the grid. The dust hasn't even landed on the ground from seeing potential in Sargeant, and new statements come in.

Very likely. Must be some questions around Albon now, so seeing how he does against Sainz would be useful.

Colapinto was also given the nod in a "Why not" manner. He wasn't expected to do so well. By anyone.

No, you are not, but it will be wiser to have Sainz there instead of Albon

Agreed; I don’t think it’s fair to Sainz to get fired from Williams before even driving there after he’s already been (unfairly imo) fired by Ferrari.

The best (in my mind) solution is that by some bizarre turn of events Lewis decides to retire (not gonna happen if Ferrari keeps on this trend) and then Sainz stays there for 2 more years leaving Williams with their current lineup. Neither Sainz nor Colapinto deserve to lose their drives from their current respective teams.

If there’s a three-into-one situation at Williams between Albon Sainz and Colapinto it would be hard to make an argument for Albon over either the other two besides loyalty (which is fair, although it doesn’t get you points in the championship).

Sainz is the best and most in-form driver Williams has had since Nico Rosberg IMO. Really no argument to cancel his contract before he turns a wheel. Silly.

Colapinto loses out here. It happens. Sainz really shouldn't be at Williams in the first place. Albon has shown that he's a capable driver and both are there to push the team and car development forward in a way Colapinto likely can't at the current moment.
