This lico situation is getting ridiculous
LMAO.

Ferrari should just change the engine and take the penalty.

What happened to his engine #2?

Do we know for sure the LiCo is for the engine. In Mexico it was for brakes, I think...

My theory is that Ferrari can't use max cooling for the brakes due to tire warmup issues which compromises the car in traffic.

If its the engine, not sure what a new ICE will solve.

But if they can not optimize the settings, there is no point in leaving this SU, because in the race with such a lico we can not get to McLaren.

I agree, I think it is a Quali compromise for tire warm up. It is a shame as the Ferrari is great in the braking zones so we are losing due to the LiCo at the end of the straights and the advantage we have in braking. Hopefully they find something in the set up before Quali.

Just change the engine now that it's a mess of a wet race.

Qualifying is at 7:30 local time. The temperature will be around 19 degrees, similar to sprint qualifying but much colder than the sprint race. Very high chance of rain all throughout the day.

My understanding is that engines are "free". You pay a fee for your engines for the season, but engines over the limit are not included in the budget cap as they are already "paid for" through the aforementioned fee.

It would have been ridiculous if you had reliability issues like Alpine in 2022 and had to shell out several million out of the budget cap for every engine blown.

It was always gonna be very difficult. People were getting overexcited and not appreciating that the Mclaren was still the obviously faster car in almost any situation.

As far as I understand PUs are free if they break, but if you change working PU that didn't break you have to pay for it out of budget.

Lift and coast starting from lap 13 for Leclerc was neither for engine nor for brakes, but for tyre temperatures. In lap 11 Bryan said to Leclerc that he should take care of the tyres and a lap after he instructed Leclerc to lift and coast into the braking zones. After the sprint race Leclerc said to Bryan that they pushed too much in the beginning.

Now, some might ask why all of a sudden Ferrari had tyre management issues and the simple answer to that was the biggest weakness of the car which still remained despite the very successfull latest upgrade and that's the instability in high speed direction changes like in S1 in Interlagos.

Ferrari will make changes to the suspension setup to mitigate this issue for the main race. Though, seems like the weather solved this problem anyway for today.
