We have sure about Cardille starts just in June? i still believe will be in January, i remeber seeing in an article saing January.

They say bb is temporary until a future decision. The technical director is responsible for everything, so also the suspension.
But in AM's case just for the front suspension as the rear one is coming from Mercedes.

It's June or July and AM are fighting with Ferrari to get it shortened. Ferrari asked for the MAX cause they were pissed. So it might get shortened but who knows.

The other thing is if your "official" TD is internal, they can start right away. Otherwise.... what are the chances that the external guy you want is available???? Minimum wait will be another 6 months.

Bob's gonna be there till 2026 unless the TD replacement is some internal person.

Aston Martin have also signed former Ferrari chassis technical director Enrico Cardile as chief technical officer, but the two teams are still negotiating his start date.

The plan is to appoint a new technical director, but likely only after Newey and Cardile have started work and decided their plans.

if you picture the team as a whole, having multiple smaller teams that concentrate on different areas of the car. the TD is the guy that oversees the team, that connects these different areas (teams) into 1 package. probably spends more time coming up with overall concepts, and guiding the smaller teams in the right direction. he probably has final say on what upgrades will be built from the technical side, and has input in all areas of the car. and it certainly isnt just him. im sure he has a team too haha.

It's a good question, and these are all assumptions from various sources I've read over the years. But I'd assume a technical director role would have two main overaching objectives:

- Understanding the technical regulations and setting out the how to best perform within those regulations - Setting out the technical strategy and development direction (Not something that has seemingly been done very well by Fallows).

- Managing the various technical teams (vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, engine implementation, trackside opertaions etc...) and ensuring all of these departments are working towards the same overall goals set out in the technical strategy.
(Again, with the trackside team and factory team seemingly having a rift between them, this also doesn't appear to have been very well managed).

There are obviously loads more tasks that a TD would be involved in but (I'd assume) but I think as a real overview that is what I would understand the role to be.

I think it is similar to what you see in many organisations where just because someone is super talented or knowledgeable in one area doesn't mean it's going to translate into a top role where the emphasis is more on strategic vision and people management. I never got the impression that Fallows was particulalry strong on that side of things.

Dan Fallows is paying the price, needless to say. As technical director, he has not convinced the management. At the moment it is still unclear what his position within the 2025 framework will be. There is even talk of a possible farewell, because a subordinate role in the Valkyrie project, moving to the WEC, would not be welcome. Cardile comes to Aston Martin through the front door. The 49-year-old from Arezzo is the new ‘chief technical officer’. Enrico will manage all the supervision regarding the technical development of the car, under the watchful eye of Adrian Newey.

The Stratford-Upon-Avon genius has always had clear ideas and prefers to command an operational pyramid that is not too large. A complex department in its form slows down decisions. For this reason, according to information, Cardile should directly absorb all of Fallows' tasks, making the “operational exercise” of the factory more agile and functional. So many responsibilities for the ex-Ferrarista, which would, however, reduce the working time of the British racing stable and not a little. This is the scheme that Aston Martin will adopt from the next world championship.

So it seems Cardile will just take over Fallows' responsibilities. Newey and Cowell seem to both want a simplified pyramid which is a good idea, there were too many cooks and duplicitious roles for sure. Probably a Whitmarsh McLaren legacy...

Transition until everyone ends gardening and gets working in proper roles and hope Honda does well from the start. Fingers crossed.

Wondering what happens to Blandin. He's deputy TD currently, could he be demoted back to head of aerodynamics/chief aerodynamicist.

No new news, but months back they said they would calibrate it for the rest of the year.

I posted a September article in here not long ago that said December/January time frame. They'll then run both in parallel (comparing results) till they're happy that they don't need the Merc one. I presume that will be fast as nobody wants to keep going to the Merc WT on Friday till Sunday.
