With watergate and the skid plates, it would explain why Red Bull and Max think they will be fighting for wins again...

Yea, although max did say that before the TD on skid plates was issued  I think he was just pumped after Brazil

One can hope though. I don't think Vegas will be great even if McLaren/Ferrari/Merc have been pegged back thanks to the RW

This makes it much more logical to keep an underperforming second driver in the seat, playing the long game.

Max and Horner on the teams' performance
The defending champion is still not sure how to assess his Red Bull: “We have certainly made progress since Austin, but we are not as good as the rain in Brazil made us look. If we're honest with ourselves, the races in Austin and Mexico weren't exactly exhilarating. We looked good in Brazil, but to be honest I would have preferred us to perform as well on a dry track.”

Nevertheless, Verstappen believes that Red Bull has caught up with the competition. Not only because the championship-winning team got back on track with the latest underbody modification. Red Bull is still of the opinion that the competition has gained an irregular advantage with water in the tires and trickery with the fastening screws in the underbody. That is now a thing of the past. “Everyone is looking at it now. That's why no-one is going to take the risk of cheating,” says the championship-winning team.

The world champion will have to wait until the Qatar GP to find out the real effect. Injecting liquid into the tires in the cold of Las Vegas would do nothing. This is not about cooling the tires, but the opposite. In addition, the high-speed circuit in the gamblers' paradise is not driven with minimal ground clearance. There are no fast corners where this would be an advantage. “We will have to wait until Qatar to know who is where,” predicts Red Bull team boss Christian Horner.

If the sources of gpblog are correct Red Bull used this trick and will be affected. Only McLaren didn't use it

Quite a different narrative to yesterday, when it was claimed that Red Bull is behind of this.

Yes. However gpblog is not a very reliable news source compared to motorsport.com, AMuS etc

I've been told red bull weren't doing it at all so yea it's still massively conflicting info

I've seen enough. They aren't fighting for a win here.

I wouldn't be so sure. Big engine difference in fp1 as usual and that makes a big impact here

You were also correct that they're using the high downforce engine cover spec, weirdly

Their running a parachute car compared to the others on a track that's just straight lines. They don't have laptime to giveaway like this. It will be worse in race trim when the DRS is closed.

Verstappen was 19th through the finish line speed trap but 3rd highest in the end of straight (and Perez 1st in the end of straight trap) which suggests very low DF. Piastri with what I believe is their Monza wing hit the same top speed as Verstappen

Image

But if everyone else goes to Monza spec then yes red bull will find it difficult. Max was talking about fighting for the win this weekend in the media so I don't think they're going to be miles off

DRS top speeds are deceptive. Red Bull always looked good when the DRS was wide open, but there are sections of straights without the DRS and in race trim there is no DRS and nowhere to hide. It's like Monza last year. Competitive on the run to T1, and bleeding time without the DRS on the run to 2nd chicane. Ferrari was on pole. I'm not holding my breath here...
