Engine modes count for a lot at fast 'street' circuits like these. And Max looked like he was just trying to explore the limits of the braking zones. Expecting them to be up there for qualifying and the race. Also the red flag duffed their soft tyre runs. Not all doom and gloom.

watched highlights of FP1 and FP2, so observations aren't very credible anyway, but here goes :
- RB20 is 1s/lap slower than the other three, in S3 alone, with fuel in the car. That can't be engine mode alone, alteast half of it is pure drag, I think (especially when they are using that 'chop shop' rear wing from Spa/Monza)
- They did a long run on softs in FP1, sacrificing a 'quali set' of S ?
- body language of the car with Max driving it, seemed very 'nervous' especially at the exit of T5, T12, T14 even if he was braking very early (after a few excursions into the straight run offs at these corners), while others were smoothly applying throttle and confidently passing near the wall at the exit, Max was hacking at the wheel far more than others and applying throttle much later over the exit. I suspect this is because there isn't much downforce coming from the floor and car is understeering far more than expected.

All said, I hoped to see atleast 1 complaint radio messsage from Max, but those that were shown, were all about irrelevant things. Surely, he would've complained a lot in normal course if the car is behaving like this and is losing 1s in just one sector. Hence, I don't know what is the 'read' on the car from the two practice sessions. Perhaps someone who watched both sessions fully can chime in.

how can this be true ? how can you "pack the wrong wing" and not bring both them ? "you had only one job"...

anyway I don't understand what is the missing right wing, is this the Monza wing right ? does exist another, flatter wing ?

If Ferrari had even done a smaller less significant version of this...

This is the lowest downforce wing they possess. Michael Schmidt has destroyed his reputation in the span of two days by reporting stories that aren't accurate or based in fact. According to Helmut Marko this is what they have.

Red Bull could get away with these tricks in 2022 since other cars were much more draggy. But it was already clear they had lost plenty of ground with wings late last year, and IIRC Ferrari did beat them comfortably at Vegas to pole last year. RB19 was a great race car at Vegas, hope the RB20 isn't terrible in race trim.

At this point WCC is a foregone conclusion (anyways didn't deserve it). For the title, it's important that Max keeps getting points.

yeah it's bs, this is the lowest DF wing they have, how can this journo fu*k up so bad and keep his job ? my boss would fire me immediately if I got such blunders

They could soon get another rear wing to vegas overnight. Max literally has a private jet
Mess with the Bull - you get the horns.

it's not Schmid but Lischka who brought it up on the live ticker, most likely based on the Marko interview at German Sky, where he said that they lose 6-9 tenths on the straight

AMuS live ticker: "Red Bull has a major problem, as we hear from the paddock. On the straights, the RB20 loses six tenths of a second. The team has brought the wrong rear wing for Vegas. The one they have is too steep, and to correct that, they would need to fly in a flatter one from England."

So yes, he made the wrong conclusion. There's no other wing they could bring.

Will that then get covered under the cost cap? Personal transport used for company cargo.

Monza performance on straights was dreadful, so I don't think anyone at Red Bull is really surprised at how things stand. It's the cost they paid in Monza already and it will be 2/24 races obviously. I don't think they will be able to afford running without Monza-spec wings next year though...
AeroGimli.x

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

The point is that there is no other wing, this is the lowest DF wing that Red Bull have in its inventory.

Long run didn’t look dreadful but it’ll essentially be like every car has DRS unless something changes. Engine modes may help but typically higher engine modes only contribute marginally to top speed vs drag.

Maybe they tought it would be ok in Monza, but they came to Vegas fully conscious it would be a problem.
Must be tight on budget.

This hack-job wing was trash whenever it was used. It started out as a major error already when it was designed, made and used in monza (and spa?), but to bring it out again is laughable. Car has no speed on straights and is lose on the rear in low speed. And it gives no confidence to drivers. Write off weekend, will be fighting with haas, mexico style.
