Winning a title with the car that will finish third in the WCC, bravo Max Verstappen!

Where did the McLaren pace disappear to?
Anyone who even remotely follows F1 over the season, would know McLaren would struggle here more than most circuits. Also everyone knew that in cold climes, the Merc comes alive. No great surprises or conspiracies by the swing in relative pace here.

MCL won in Baku didn't they? Did something happen after that race perhaps?

On a chassis that scored 100 points in the first races, creating a comfortable gap. There was no fight for the title, just an attempt to catch up. An easy title for him.

I would think it's unlikely that the mini DRS was worth ~one second a lap, which is more or less what they lost compared to a "normal", Baku like performance. They also significantly messed up the setup this weekend.

Well done Max. 4xWDC will go in history as one of the greatest of all time.
George totally deserves this one.

This season has been very interesting for F1, with all the ups and downs for every team.
2025 is likely going to be an epic season from the start to finish I am sure

The issue is the balance, not the DRS itself. The mini-DRS allowed then to run more wing and keep the car loaded in the corners. Once your balance is gone you start to grain and then you lose more.

If you get chance watch Landos post race interview on Sky. He has a line just for you…

Baku was extremely close pace-wise with Ferrari and Red Bull, and it was here as well judging by qualifying. Norris felt the Q pace was OK but race runs a disaster in practice. It’s clear that the tyres were the main differentiator this weekend for a lot of teams. The ”mini DRS” doesn’t cause graining and other tyre issues, that’s for sure.

Picking up on something commented live in the F1TV feed. Looking only at the main race this year:

VER: 8 wins
NOR: 3 wins
PIA: 2 wins
LEC: 2 wins --- Edit: 3, Leclerc has 3 wins.
SAI: 2 wins
RUS: 2 wins
HAM: 2 wins

This is kind of unprececented.
7 winners? Maybe the Pirelli lottery in 2012.
But 7 drivers winning more than once? Has there ever been this many competitive drivers cars ready to snatch a win the day the weater or a SC went their way?
Rivals, not enemies.

Yes, it's a new record - 7 different multiple winners in a season. In 1981 there were also 7 different winners, but not multiple --> viewtopic.php?p=1255005#p1255005
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Do you ask this about the races in the Arabian Peninsula?

It's a much warmer day today than yesterday. Quite noticeably and also much windier than yesterday. Today the wind is gusting against the flow of main straight. The DRS and slipstream will be crucial, so being able to put power down early and making the pass late so that no counter slipstream can be taken.
I am watching next to the marshal stand on Harmon in front of the kink at the end of sector 3 and it looks like current conditions will mean a slightly warmer night. The teams that have mastery of the hard tyre will likely eek ahead but a safety car or red flag is not out of the picture.
What does the 'vibe' feel like at this race?

It doesn't give me anything at all on the emotional responsometer* and the footage looks like this is reallt poor for viewing and seeing a car out and performing.

Maybe I am a Luddite and perhaps this is the new school way it is going to be. Maybe! It just looks dead behind the eyes.

I hope you get some good support races too - and that you have a great time :)

Thanks for the weather updates too - the high speed headwind might make some interesting overtaking options possible.

*it's a real thing**

** it's not.
Yes, to be fair. Feels the same but it's perhaps off topic!
The race, the 'show', the adverts and the nonsense of the driving to a fountain . Lol. It's crass

The actual race though . Impressive Mercedes pace and very satisfying to see Carlos having no issues to drive for himself.

Max deserves the title and plaudits but should be tighter next year.. We always hope.

Shouldn't Leclerc be on 3? Monaco, Monza Austin?
