Not saying he was screwed, but he is likely to feel it that way, and that is all that matters.
He bet his hand, turned out someone else had a flush. What he's doing right now is why he's going to Williams instead of RBR.
Even if he was ok with a 1 year contract (but not signed at the time), don't you think they would have taken Hamilton anyway ?
Maybe the following year, but he would be in Ferrari in 2025.

HAM would have ended up signing the 1 year extension that Toto wanted, SAI would have gotten his 1 year and maybe this is a discussion for 2026.

We'll never know, what we do know is that he didn't sign the contract, and HAM became available. We also know that RBR doesn't want anything to do with him, and out of the whole grid only Williams was happy to take him.

I'm only worried about the fans.
best to avoid social media  maybe even this forum where we should at list try to be more objective in criticism than just mindless rants..

anyway, atm we are 24 points behind mecca, and Charles is behind Lando by 21 points.. it was similar last year remember, going into 2 last race Ferrari were behind merc by similar points and almost got the win over them in wcc..
It's absolutely critical they find pace in Qatar. 24 and 21 points isn't impossible but it's not the likely outcome either.

I also think Leclerc having an older PU will hurt them, even if the final tracks aren't as engine critical as Vegas. So they need to be especially smart on strategy and maximizing the sprint and FPs for setup. They didn't do that this weekend.

The team(or may aptly Sainz I guess) have lost Charles it seems. He is fuming. Sainz just spoke of an agreement they have to not speak of each other in the media or on the radio so this might get spicy. These vibes are not what we need to win WCC...

Can't say I blame Charles. Seems like every-time they have an agreement about in race behavior, Sainz ignores.

Championship still possible of course, until the last race, anything can happen.

Finger crossed, at start of the race I thought about a 1-2 but then… disappointing

I like feisty LEC. Thats what team leaders should do. And he got receipts he is faster soo... For WCC Quattar will decide. Mclaren on paper should stomp this one home, but this year we cant really predict everything clearly.

Not sorry to see the politician move to Williams next year.
Not an ideal race but if our competition in the WCC have continued "issues" with their balance then things can still happen

It's pretty well known by now Sainz was offered a 1 year contract, waited on it because he wanted 2 years, then Hamilton came along and of course they chose him. But this wouldn't have happened if he'd just signed what they offered...
Thanks for sharing, I somehow missed this completely... Puts a whole new light onto everything Sainz is doing now. Such a pathetic dick move to overtake Leclerc against team orders. Maybe Vasseur should replace him with Bearman for the last two races, WCC is gone in any case now. He got a new PU and wasted it last weekend, had 2 tenths a lap with that PU over Leclerc, got an early test with Williams as a parting gift and he still disrespects this team. China sprint BS, China race BS, Spain race BS, Baku race BS, Austin sprint BS, Vegas race BS, enough is enough. Enjoy fighting in the midfield again buddy, you ain't getting top seat contract any more

On a positive note, Hamilton and Leclerc were absolutely brutal in that final stint, they are gonna be the best pair on the grid hands down 8)

It's a shame that this incident likely ruins any chance of these two working together to win WCC (tbf, Sainz showed today and before that wasn't his plan to begin with)

I don't want to hear the excuses that Ferrari fired him, he has done this since he has gotten here and I'm honestly tired of it.

And everytime Leclerc was closing in on him he's been very quick on the radio telling the team that they should not race each other.

Re: 2024 Scuderia Ferrari F1 Team

Post

I usually try to share the full post-race interviews here, but honestly just reading this thread is tiring me out and browsing X is even more so. I will just share the first few parts I found. These are taken from multiple interviews, I'm just grouping them together for ease of reading.

Leclerc

We lost a lot in the first stint; in the second and third, I think we were among the fastest cars, if not the fastest. On the mediums, I really struggled. The problem was that I had no warning before losing the front tires.

I'm not going into details [about Sainz], honestly. Why am I upset? Because there are things we discuss, and today they went a bit differently. It's fine; in the end, we finished third and fourth. For the team, it doesn't change anything, but for the Drivers' Championship, I'm a bit disappointed because I'm battling with Norris. I know I need to rely on myself, qualify better, and do everything perfectly. From now on, I’ll focus on myself and try to maximize everything.

[When asked if he feels like Ferrari are favoring Sainz] No, not at all. It's not about favoring one or the other. It's about things we've been told and said to each other... but it's all good. I've already said too much. I don't want to go into more details. It's just frustrating when it's like this, but I can understand why nobody understands that.
Sainz

I’ve agreed not to talk about this with the media because every time we talk here, it creates chaos. I’ve agreed with him [Leclerc] not to say anything and to discuss what happened directly with him. These are things between us. I don’t broadcast over the radio, I don’t talk to the media about it, because I don’t like it—it’s not the right thing to do and it’s unnecessary.

I’m not looking to blame anyone—it’s not the time to analyze. For two laps, I had been asking to pit. I knew Charles was coming up faster, and I wanted to let him through and get out of the way. Hamilton was behind him, and I knew things could get messy. I wanted to change tires since I had a lot of graining, but we weren’t doing anything. I stayed out for two extra laps, and even on the lap I wanted to pit, we messed up the pit entry. It didn’t go well for me, it didn’t go well for Charles, and I lost a lot of time there. It wasn’t a good situation, and it wasn’t easy to manage, but that’s how it went. That’s why I prefer to analyze it later and not speak about it in front of the microphones.
Vasseur

We limited the damage, but we should have scored more points than the others and not just limited the damage. We scored 12 points more than McLaren, maybe 17 or 15 more than Red Bull. That was probably the best we could do because Mercedes flew from start to finish. We'll see next week.

At one point in the first stint both drivers wanted to come back. At the beginning we wanted to stretch and it was a bad decision to stay on track, and we paid for it at the end of the race. We argued with Carlos to stay on track and we missed the pit stop. It was a very difficult race for the drivers, they are under pressure in these conditions and it is very frustrating to lose two seconds per lap because of the graining. You have to understand them.

The idea that he wanted to get out of Charles way, when he kept Max in his DRS to block Charles from attacking him, has me feeling like he's trying to take us all for idiots.

Ferrari maximized their result and Carlos was great today. He doesn't owe anything to Charles and passed him fair and square twice. Leclerc first and foremost needs to look to himself for improvement, he mismanaged his tyres early and then could not take advantage of his fresher rubber at the end. The radio after the race may land him some community service
