It would be sensible in a night race to have LED boards the marshals can hold up, and not flags.
I’d say the waved flag would be much better than a board.

The view will have been much clearer in the car than any onboard footage too
At night a massive LED flashing board is going to be pretty helpful. Flags as they wave can shrink in perspective when they are sideways right. Many series use in car flagtronics which can be insanely helpful.

We have the tech, their steering wheels should light up telling them exactly what is happening, and indeed at that point no excuse not to see a flag.

Why was Albon not given a 30 second time penalty for missing a rearview mirror like Alonso was in COTA 2022?
The rules regarding what counts as dangerous bodywork were reworked after that race or a few races after iirc. The teams were notified of a change in the way it'd be ruled in future

Basically early in 2022 Haas had been given 3 black & orange flags for things like front wing damage that they themselves and many of us felt was pretty ridiculous.

So they pushed hard for Alonso and Perez to get harsh penalties at cota. Stewards bought it for some reason. But they scheduled a review of black&orange flags/dangerous bodywork conditions after Haas kicked up a fuss (which was likely haas' real intentions anyway - to gain clarity)

https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/fia-s ... /10391932/
In the announcement that Alonso’s Austin penalty had been annulled, it was revealed that FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem had initiated a review into the future use of the black-and-orange flag.

Autosport understands that this has been enacted in unanimous agreement with the F1 teams
I'm not sure we're privy to the exact changes in what constitutes a dangerous condition of the car but I expect that teams agreed on certain things that are/aren't dangerous. So we can't use precedent from 2022 and earlier to dictate current stewarding because those rules changed
Thanks for the answer! The effort is appreciated :)

Alonso (& Max too) for some reason often get these weird penalties that never happen again

Confirming he would not seek to appeal the penalty, which he said was "correct" despite its draconian nature, Norris said: "Disappointed of course.

"I've let the team down, the team gave me a great car today, easily the quickest out there, and I f***ed it up.

Just another day, Norris not winning in the fastest car, and Max winning without it...

It would be interesting to see the 2 battle it out at the front on the hard. From the first sector, it was obvious that the cars were equally matched, if not a tiny bit more pace for Max. Max was managing a lot in turns 12-14 from memory.

I am not a Lando fan but that 10 second stop/go penalty for him was very harsh.

Pretty interesting! But Max is right…Russell plays it polite in front of the cameras and then will try to screw you over at the first chance! This is pretty much what he has been doing with Lewis inside Mercedes these past 3 years too…

You can see what Max & Lando think of George's description here

Even George is embarrassed in front of his peers.
Honestly, I was delighted that GR's skullduggery got 'cancelled' in the race start and he didn't have the race pace for the podium. Karma will teach lessons to people who are too clever for their own good. The slow pistop and the rage with 'H tyres again?' was the icing on the Karma cake.

GR is a slimy character. Now he’s top dog at Merc, and thinks he’s at the top table, his ego has exploded. He will, if he hasn’t already, will become unbearable. Glad Max spanked him today, and, as usual, went backwards on a Sunday.

What a BS penalty for Norris. Incredible. F1 is becoming WWE.

Quite normal for speeding under double waved yellows in race conditions as far as I can tell

Well, he will at least say exactly how he feels. He's not always right, but he's honest. George likes to scheme, Max is not a schemer.

Some penalty, yes. Not 10 seconds stop and go, that’s just ridiculous
