In hindsight the penalties for Lando and Hamilton were the correct ones according to precedent. Lando was unlucky with the mixed messaging from the boards flashing green, but the 10s stop and go is the correct penalty for speeding under double waved yellows, which he did. As for Hamilton it all depends on how much you speed, but the penalty is pre-defined and the stewards just applied it.

Yeah it felt harsh at the time but it was in accordance with precedent

How much of a lift is enough lift? One is a 10 s stop&go, the other is totally fine. What's the practical difference between these two?

Organic posted a very different trace, showing a 100% lift of Verstappen:

But it's the normal penalty for that offense, so it's not ridiculous. I don't think anyone at McLaren or Norris himself has complained at all

It's not unclear from the telemetry

Personally I think the only argument can be that there was some confusion with a green flashing board immediately after the marshals waving double yellows, potentially serving as some mitigation but in the case of double yellows usually the stewards apply maximum penalty even when there are confusing circumstances (see Verstappen quali 2021 at Qatar, for instance)
From that lift Norris gained almost a second on Verstappen, which was why it was so obvious to Verstappen that Norris did not lift.

Lap 30 is what you need.

Looks like max also braked too for a tiny amount

The one from the Twitter account F1 analysis or whoever has chosen lap 31.
Mess with the Bull - you get the horns.

Might be the wrong lap. I have just seen the Twitter-post. Questions still stands, though. How much lift is needed? Isn't the rules something among the lines "significantly reduce speed" ?

FormulaDataAnalysis is not the best source of info on X, he just uses "facts" to peddle his own narratives. In this case he has taken the wrong lap and used it to spread false info. The double yellow happened on lap 30, this guy shows lap 31, Max lifted completely going into the braking zone of T1, lost around 0,5 s. Lando kept his foot in.

It’s ridiculous and impossible to police. Maybe double waved yellows should activate a Le Mans style slow zone, 150kph?

It was possible. Only the best of the best like Mazepin or Latifi and some F3 driver managed to violate this rule in the race before this weekend.
Please let us not forget this before we discuss the rule or policing it.

Russell is Max's mirror image. He's always hated Russell. Boohoo. Russell lobbied for something and it went his way. Who the hell cares

Im a fan of both drivers. I hope Merc can bring a car next year so that Max and George can fight it out.

Either way , Lando's passive reaction to it , putting all the blame on himself is just why Max likes Lando and hates Russell. Leclerc is too passive as well.

It’s amazing that a sport of F1’s caliber hasn’t invented an automated system to instantly put the pit limiter on when the system shows double waved yellows!

That is probably more dangerous than not doing it. Drivers would start crashing into each other due to varying braking distances and lockups caused by the lack of ABS.

I'd disagree. Russell has a long way to go before he is as good as Max.

(not getting into the driver ying-yang though)
