Does anyone have any insights regarding how McLaren's technical leadership structure works in practice? Is it really Marshall/Prodromou/Houldey/Temple all reporting directly to Stella, or does Marshall have some sort of oversight as Chief Designer?

It’s probably the most convoluted structure (at least externally), so there isn’t a clear hierarchy.

I would imagine Rob Marshall has a lot of say on the base platform/concept, but the decisions are probably made with a lot of knowledge share between departments. So I guess everything is tied up together taking into consideration both the mechanical input (Houldey and co) and aero input (Prodromou and co).

Then everyone reports to Andrea Stella who, I assume, keeps tabs on everything and dictates general goals.

McLaren has this “luxury” where their TP is actually a very revered engineer, so he can also provide technical input, albeit perhaps not to the same level as the appointed TDs.

Since Zak is also actively involved with the team (more than you would expect a normal CEO), this helps Andrea focus on the technical side of the role while Zak alleviates his pressure on other duties.

I think Rob and Peter report to Stella, and so does Mark Temple,but most likely only till the Red Bull guy joins.

Piers Thynne is the COO and also reports to Stella. I think that's it. 4 people report in. PT helps with the running of the factory, Mark Temple is trackside lead, Rob is Mechanical and Peter is Aero.

In any team there will need to be a synergy between mechanical and aero. You do get the impression Rob is a little more senior than Peter but I'd expect that decisions are made across the leadership team.

We can all agree that Lando Norris drove like a champion on a race where the pressure was huge. He made the perfect start and gave no chance to Sainz for anything more than 2nd place.

He led from pole in the fastest car with no real pressure to his position at any point in the race.

That's about as easy a job as it gets in F1. Not saying he isn't good or it wasn't a decent enough job for what they needed, but calling it the drive of a champion is bizarre.

No real pressure? I disagree. When you learn that your teammate is taken out and you need to win in order to get the championship definitely adds a lot of pressure. Have you forgotten how many times Lando broke under pressure this year? You can't deny that his driving wasn't brilliant this time as he barely had the fastest car.

Thank god these financial issues are in the past but in my opinion it's more than just accounting. Regarding my data I haven't posted any personal information in my profile. You see what happened is that I am also writing on a forum called gazzetta on the F1 section. It's not a forum and more like a comment section on each article. I'm there 3 years commenting about Mclaren and Hamilton and I usually come to blows with a Ferrari fanatic from the Schumacher era who has issues with Hamilton breaking Schumi's records. Today it was the first time he called me by my real name which is strange as I haven't mentioned my name before.
